  1. How the fuck is anybody supposed to have a reasonable discussion in here when pretty much every single one of you is embarrassingly wrong about nearly everything you believe?

  2. I think we would disagree on the policy and laws that are the cause of negative societal factors. (Think 1960s and welfare policy that essentially destroyed black families for example). I believe that many of our institutions are stacked against poor people rather that people of color. I also agree that as a nation we are not perfect on ensuring equal opportunity, but we would likely disagree as to why that is. I realize you are talking about a different issue. My comments and you criticisms are essentially two independent ideas. What and individual does and how he lives his life is not dependent on societal factors. It is dependent on his mind set every day when he wakes up and decides how he is going to live his life that day, given his present circumstances. I do not believe that racism, sexism etc. is nearly as pervasive or has as large an effect on people as you do, but that is a rabbit hole for a different day. I believe that different races have different cultures based on their history. I also believe that our country is one of very few that has the ability and in fact has addressed many of the cultural and institutional issues that cause unequal opportunity to exist. For example women and people of color have far more opportunity than they did 100 years ago. This is a good thing. I agree we need more work on that. I do not agree that destroying capitalism and becoming a woke Marxist and fascist society will help in addressing those issues. Our governing and founding documents allow us to change and we have and hopefully we will continue to change for the better.

  3. Isn't is kind of ironic you're supposedly championing some "middle ground" while saying the only two moderates in the entire democratic caucus need to go into hiding because they won't do whatever their hyperpartisan cohorts desire? Also, what makes you believe either party is capable of championing any sort of "middle ground?" They are clearly both controlled by partisan zealots who don't represent reason or a cohesive government.

  9. Isn't this just common sense? Unless there is scientific data showing how immunity from prior infection is materially less than from the vaccine, there is no reason not to treat them similarly. Well, no reason I can think of unless someone wants political control.

  18. I agree with the confirmation bias, but it happens within the scientific community as well. Understandable since it's made up of humans. The authors of articles such as this arent necessarily scientists either, but journalists who often have an agenda and will cherry pick quotes to prove a point or skew towards one. Seeing the first takeaway of the article and then reading the article myself and seeing a different conclusion buried within it, validate that healthy skepticism can be a good thing.

  27. Gonna be a tough hole to dig out of. Still seems absurd that it's 10 years ago and all this stuff is likely going to ruin him. It would be fascinating to see what would happen if the Raiders won their last two games instead of losing them. At this point it seems like racism + homophobia + misogyny adds up to a sum too high to recover from, even with the number of years that have passed. Meanwhile you're going to have a bunch of players in the league with a smorgasbord of legal problems. Somehow it will be okay for Kareem Hunt or Tyreek Hill to be running around, but Gruden is probably getting canceled due to private emails from a decade ago.

  30. I love that you think your straman argument is some profoundly important statement about the state of politics in America. Some people work hard and ignore all of the societal factors that benefited them (and not others), allowing them them to get ahead through their hard work. Some people don't work hard, then blame everything bad that happens on the inequity that limited them, ignoring their own personal responsibility/accountability. You focus on the latter, and raise states you don't understand. But then you do the exact same thing - when raise focuses on the former, you think he doesn't understand. Its pointless. Hard work is required to get somewhere, but it is also not sufficient. Its both. To deny either one is disingenuous. Pretty sure you both agree with this, but instead of arguing the gray area we all make posts like this.

  31. I guess it’s now a bad thing to work hard, take care of your family, contribute to your community and create some wealth for yourself over your lifetime so you don’t have to rely on charity or government assistance. It’s now a bad thing to be a giver and not a taker. I have trouble understanding the concept of the government providing for something because I can’t afford it, except maybe if people are legit in need of something because of health or some other circumstance beyond their control and not due to their poor choices. We couldn’t afford childcare when my kids were little either so we lived on one income and made due with what we had. Somehow we paid our bills, bought enough food, paid our health insurance and student loans and then one day in the future we were magically making more money, through luck I suppose, doubt our life decisions had much to do with it, like opening my own business, my wife working part time when the kids were in school, not taking vacations, not buying new cars or a nicer house. I really do not understand how anyone can argue with the idea that people should work hard and smart and make better life choices, financial and personal, in order to create the life they desire. If that makes me a Trumper then sign me up, although I don’t think those values have anything to do with who the president is. Those values and life skills are learned, acquired and fine tuned over a lifetime. Life is a challenge. It’s what makes it worth living.

  32. Everybody dying and/or getting extremely sick is unvaccinated. THE VACCInES 💉 WORK! If stupid people continue to refuse it and then end up getting extremely sick that’s on them! If they are so stubborn and idiotic then they get what they deserve IMO. If Kyrie Irving catches a bad case and ends up on a ventilator who fucking cares. He decided that was the smartest play (in his mind) so he can deal with the consequences.

  33. "How immunity from infection and from vaccination compare is difficult to parse. Dozens of studies have delved into the debate, and have drawn contradictory conclusions. Some consistent patterns have emerged: Two doses of an mRNA vaccine produce more antibodies, and more reliably, than an infection with the coronavirus does. But the antibodies from prior infection are more diverse, capable of fending off a wider range of variants, than those produced by vaccines". This is from that article. My takeaway is there in no clear evidence that immunity gained from prior infection is materially inferior to the virus. The paragraphs you provided are conjecture and hyperbole. Wouldn't everyone want superpowers?
