Foxwoods or Mohegan for NLHE Low Stakes?
I've always played at Foxwoods and have never been to Mohegan. I play 1/2 NLHE and ocassionally 2/5 NLHE at Foxwoods. Where is it harder or easier to get a seat' Does it differ depending on the day and time' Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks! Also, if I missed some long thread on this when I searched, a link to that with an insult is fine too.

A Simple Explanation: What Bush Is Doing Now re: UIGEA, The Difference Between Legislation and Regulation
For those of you who are wondering, here's a quick primer about what is going on. Congress passes legislation. Executive Agencies implement that legislation. They often do so by issuing regulations. Regulations are generally more specific than legislation. [For example, Congress might pass legislation that says "Nobody is allowed to release any air pollutants." Then, the EPA will issue a regulation describing what counts as an air pollutant (Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Oxides, etc.), what counts as releasing (dispersing into the air during manufacturing, as a by-product of ...

Packing up and going to Vegas...semi long
My Two Cents: Instead of moving to Vegas, move to Boise, Idaho. It's a fun, beautiful, laid back small city where you can get a really nice house for $1,000 a month, and a nice apartment for way less than that. (look, a nice house for $995 and a sweet condo for $675 ) You can build up an online bankroll there, where there are few distractions but the beautiful outdoors. Then, if you still want to go to Vegas or you want to go back to Boston, you can.

Important Developments in the State of New York
The New York State Senate is controlled by Republicans. They have 32 seats, while the Dems have only 30. Also, Frank Padavan is the bill's author, and he is a Republican.

Presidents and poker
While I agree that Romney would probably develop a nuanced, reasonable view on the issue upon considering it, I disagree that he'd operationalize that view. I think, as a businessman and a moderate in conservatives clothing, a President Romney will be willing to push some moderate policies. He certainly will be unlikely to aggresively push a very conservative social agenda. BUT, legalized online poker is not a worthwhile enough issue on which to take a stand. In fact, if I were President Romney, I would love the opportunity to prove my conservative credentials and play to my socially ...

Presidents and poker
I will restrict my response to those with any realistic chance of getting the nomination (Clinton, Giuliani, Huckabee, McCain, Obama, Romney). The Democrats--Clinton and Obama--are definitely more likely than the Republicans to support legalized internet gaming. While over the last 15 years bipartisan support for banning online gambling has existed, only Democrats and super-libertarian Republicans have supported legalizing it. The leading mainstream proponent of legalization in Congres is a Democrat. Furthermore, the indusrty coalition oppossed to legalization has more influence on the ...

Early in $800 satellite to EPT
Hands that he could have that he can have in this situation that he will have to lay down include: A-K, A-Q, A-J, 8-9, 9-9, A-T, 9-T, T-J, Q-T, J-J, 9-J. Plus, this is a higher limit tournament where people are willing to lay down strong hands so he will fold J-J, Q-Q, K-K, A-A sometimes too. Remember, this is a late position open-raiser. He can have just about anything. I think he has a set only a small percentage of the time and in almost every other case you want to be raising to push off the many hands I've listed above which cannot play a big pot but you are not far ahead of. Every ...

"the only hands that are shoving on you are sets. You aren't getting action from any worse hands or flush draws" that's exactly why you can't just call. By just calling, you are giving a free card to a ton of hands that are 50/50 with you, but will fold if you raise. Instead of just calling and trying to hit your card, you gain a lot of equity by taking the pot down some huge % of the time and trying to suck out on a set the rest of the time.

scream AK?!
I think I probably call. More importantly, playing at a level where losing a buy-in is troubling is not good poker. That's where the real problem in your play lies. Drop down a level until you rebuild.

live 1/2 NL hand...should I have laid it down?
Absolutely not. You must call here, in my opinion. I think you have great pot equity. Look at the below calculations (someone correct me if they are wrong, please). % villan has hand, villan's hand (% you will win) 30% 68 (.51) 15% A2 (.51) 15% A8 (.45) 10% AK-J (.46) 10% A9 et.c (.86) 10% Xh Xh (.95) 10% 88 or 66 (.31) 15.3+7.65+6.75+4.6+8.6+9.5+3.1=55.5 so you are 55.5% likely to win Even with the very strong range I gave him here, where he is never bluffing and where he rarely has a flush draw (I think a flush draw is very likely), it is still profitable to call. I think the ...

in my extremely humble opinion, i think you've got to play this fast. the point of doing so is that there are relatively few hands (a set, 8-10, 9d-Jd, an over pair) he can play back at you with if you stick in another raise. A guy playing a ton of hands early, raising in late position and then putting in a small raise on the flop does not need a premium hand. You cannot lay this down since so often you will be ahead or against a hand that must fold (A-K, A-Q, A-J, 8-9, 9-9, A-T, 9-T, T-J, Q-T, J-J). Since you're out of position, it's gonna be hard to keep the pot small. Plus, you can't give ...

Do you call or fold here?
Call. Although this is usually 10-10, JJ, QQ, it is sometimes A-Q, A-J or something nutty. It is one of those hands MORE OFTEN than it is AA or KK, in my opinion. Thus, call. My read is based on the very large raise unlikely to be AA or KK (as I assume yours was when you called)

.25/.50 KK
it's hard to imagine him having KQ, as that would makes sense with the , but hero has that. makes sense, however, as does a flush, a set, or Q-9. So, we've got to decide villain's percentages. If it looks like this - 15% (.70) % (0) 33, 99-20% (.22) Two non A diamonds- 30% (.15) Q-9-10% (.36) something goofy (Q without A of diamonds or a bluff)-10% (.9) 10.5+4.4+4.5+3.6+9= 32% so, you get about 32% of this pot. 11/42 = 26% So, at this point it is a mathematically good call BUT we have to ask ourselves what villain is going to do on river. He is clearly going to bet any flush and a set, ...

Good Time For a Squeezer?
I can't imagine an argument for doing anything different. How could someone let 10-10 go here' Good chance you are up against two hands with A-big and are a solid favorite or up against 5h-6h and 8-8 and taking it down right here.

I wish that were true, but I am sorry to say that it is not. Many members of Congress do not view call or letter campaigns as an accurate method of evaluating public opinion because they tend to represent small segments of the population whose opinions are already known. For example, the only people upset and calling about an online gambling ban are us online gamblers. I can tell you that some members of the New Jesey delgation (Democrats and Republicans, Reps and Senators) hardly glance at their mail, let alone pay serious attention to it or answer it. Of course, many members do care. It ...

the check on the flop instead of a continuation bet stinks of a set of 8s or AK. But, that may simply be because of the way you presented it. I think it's a marginal situation. Depends on the way he was playing. Making a lot of moves or careful'

Careful what you assume. The guy (Jiffman) who said "the US is huge and so has a bigger pool of people to choose from," lists his location as London, U.K. So, appears it's also the Europeans who are confused about population sizes, not just Americans.

Don't count on it losing momentum. Wall Street Journal readers aren't exactly the same kind of conservatives who are interested in banning online gambling. They're small government, big business conservatives, who often find themselves at odds with the Christian Right. Very interesting post.

How should the floor have ruled?
yeah, it can be pretty pathetic in there. thanks for all the responses. I actually did try to tell the dealer to give me my $30 back before he chopped it up, but he ignored me. He was an asshole. I didn't tip him, obviously, although unfortunately they have tip-sharing, so it didn't just come out of his pocket. 1/2 at foxwoods is crazy and you have to dramatically alter your play (raising to $15 pre flop, etc.). I did not in fact have QQ, I had A-9 suited, which makes me look like an idiot without any further information. Actually, it demonstrates how nutty 1/2nl at foxwoods is. I knew I ...

I worked in Congress this summer and lilybeau is absolutely right. If you are not from Tennessee, they will do one of two things: 1) Throw out the piece of scrap paper upon which they had written your comments, or 2) Take that piece of paper, put it in an envelope, and send it down the hall to one or both of your Senators If they don't ask you your name, address, etc. then they are probably disregarding what you say entirely, even if you are from TN. Very few Senate offices actually pay attention to phone calls and mail because those people who contact them represent such a small portion of ...

How big is the gap between top online players and pros?
To clarify the question: If the top (primarily) live players and the top (primarily) online players played an infinite number of online tournaments, online cash games, live tournaments, and live cash games, would the live players or online players win more money' My answer: The top live players. Live poker requires a wider skill set than online poker. Some of the online players would be unable to develop the necessary skills (physical skills like body control, tells, and the concentration it takes to process the greater amount of information), no matter how many live hands they saw. All of ...
