Before the game I saw odds for James to win MVP and Warriors lose at +2200. It hasn't happened since Jerry West did it in the 60s when the Lakers lost to the Celtics in 7 games.

The Rockets choked. Yea, they might have won with CP3. As is, they choked. Gordon and Ariza even moreso than Harden. Obviously it's not fair to compare Gordon to Curry, but it was striking seeing Gordon clang open 3 pointers off the backboard and look rattled at the free throw line while Curry couldn't wait to launch the contested dagger. This Rockets' loss is on the players, not the GM or the coach. They had a great lineup, a great gameplan, but the players didn't execute. On a separate note, since players get more and more athletic every generation, I think 20 years from now, we will have ...

They certainly have GOAT potential. They are 30-18 with a Pythagorean record of 36-12. They've lost more than their share of close games. Running so below expectation will prevent them from putting up the best regular season ever for a team to win the World Series, which I suppose is what you need to be considered the GOAT team.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer With seven scoreless innings from Lance McCullers, the Astros' rotation ERA sits at 2.25. It's averaging 10.55 strikeouts per nine innings -- just about equal to Randy Johnson's career rate of 10.6. Batters are hitting .186 against them -- that's less than the .195 average Pedro Martinez held hitters to during his 1997-2002 peak. They've allowed a .254 wOBA -- only seven regular batters are worse this season. Incredible.

The Cole trade hurts because the Astros knew how to coach him and the Pirates didn't. After 1 start I knew Cole had turned the corner and he's now Max Scherzer. We did not get a trade return for Max Scherzer.

I teared up. I guess the one positive side of trading him away a year away is that it keeps his legacy perfectly in tact, as opposed to if he left for another team in free agency. Jamo should be fine, just a lacerated finger, reportedly. It still hurts watching Cole, you add Cole to this team (even after taking away Moran) and this team looks playoff-worthy, and Cole looks like a force in a one game playoff.

Nobody in the league can stop LeBron. There are a couple of teams than can outscore him, and I don't think the Celtics is one of them.

Seems like it has bias towards players who play forever. It is a cumulative stat, after all. Rodman has the reputation for being one of the best defenders ever, and is arguably the best offensive rebounder ever, which is immensely valuable. Point is, this whole LeBron playing with "superstars" thing seems really overrated, I don't see how Love is more valuable than Rodman. Only one person can score at a time, you need defenders and rebounders.

How do you assign defensive value' Because stuff like defensive win shares favor Grant's contributions over Love's and put Grant as a top 50 defender all time. If you need to start a team from scratch, you take Love over Grant, but if you already have Jordan and Pippen or LeBron and Kyrie, then I think Grant is the better fit.

@Resilient Just glancing at some stats, it sure seems like Horace Grant/ Dennis Rodman count as the third "star" on Jordan's Bulls teams. Now, sure, Grant only made one All-Star team, and Rodman only made two, so I guess in terms of being recognized for their talent during their primes, they weren't on the same level as Love. But in terms of value to the team, it appears to me that Grant and Rodman were more valuable than Love. And of course, Grant/Rodman was the third star on those Bulls teams, while Love is currently the 2nd. I'm quite certain that the Cavs would have had a better chance ...

It's stupid because LeBron's legacy would take less of a hit if he wasn't good enough to drag his team in the Finals. You know, like Jordan throughout the 80s.

That's a hell of a game. Jordan still wasn't as efficient in the playoffs as LeBron has been. And Jordan's efficiency, from what I recall, looks a lot worse when you exclude the year (or 2) where the 3 point line was temporarily moved up. And how much did Jordan's efficiency benefit from Pippen's playmaking'

Yes, he SCORED better than LeBron. Jordan never PLAYED this well. Passing, rebounding, efficiency, making inferior supporting casts title contenders. Jordan never did the in the 80s, when he had plenty of opportunities.

dude has 13 assists tho, and has some of the greatest court vision the game has ever seen. It's only works when his supporting cast plays horribly (like they did for part of the Indiana series, and Love did for the entire time).

That's like saying why would you bet LeBron under 31.5 points when it is 32 points on another site' This isn't an either/or calculation. Futures bets at these type of plus odds are capped to around a couple hundred bucks or less. EDIT: And finally, not to waste too much more time on this, but with any longshot like this, you are betting on some percentage of the the time for injuries to happen. Due to the odds, we love the fact that an injury to Utah is just as likely to happen as an injury to GS or HOU. But if an injury were to happen to GS, the odds on that series would move to below +400.

I don't think they will take down Houston. I glossed over that matchup because it should be obvious that the Jazz have a chance in that series. I'm saying that the market is underrating the Jazz significantly. I don't care if the Jazz don't win another game this series, that is only one outcome out of many.
