  1. Talk about a dose of justice reality. A convicted Edmonton drug dealer has gone from serving a conditional sentence in the community under house arrest to having to do hard time in a penitentiary. According to a Court of Appeal of Alberta decision issued Wednesday, a Crown sentence appeal was unanimously granted by a three-judge panel and Kyle Chalifoux, 20, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. Chalifoux was originally given the two-year conditional sentence, including 240 hours of community service, on Jan. 28 after earlier pleading guilty to three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking – involving cocaine, morphine and marijuana – and possession of MDMA (ecstasy). Court heard police executed a search warrant on Feb. 20. 2009, at the home of Chalifoux’s mother and found a quantity of various drugs in Chalifoux’s basement bedroom. Police seized 81 grams of cocaine, 180 morphine tablets, 148 grams of marijuana and 78 ecstasy pills, court heard. Officers also found 27 spitballs of cocaine and $615 in cash in Chalifoux’s hoodie pocket and a BlackBerry, plastic wrap, baggies and a number of other cell phones.
