  1. The party in Portugal is probably going to last for a few days after Andre 'PTFisherman23' Marques came out on top of the 2020 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker Main Event (High) on Wednesday. Marques, who was playing from the Netherlands, was one of three players to earn at least $1 million at the final table after Marques, Tonio 'prrak4783' Roder, and Teun 'tinnoemulder' Mulder chopped up just north of $3.32 million after four days of play in $10,300 buy-in WCOOP Main Event. Marques emerged as the champion and picked up $1,147,270.86 while Roder came in second place for $1,082,522.50 and Mulder took home $1,101,527.64 for taking the final spot on the podium. Sweden's Robin 'robinho' Ylitalo, who has been ranked as high as #2 in the world, came in fourth place for a career-best cash of $543,301. That cash also made Ylitalo just the 13th player to surpass $13 million in online tournament earnings. Winning the WCOOP Main Event (Medium) is a pretty solid way to grab the first WCOOP title of your career. That's exactly what Thailand-based grinder '1mSoWeeeaK' pulled off on Wednesday night after beating 'Y.Zakaharov' heads up to claim the crown and secure the bag. With no deal made, the champion walked away with $504,583.85 while 'Y.Zakaharov' had to settle for $359,679.96. Lastly, 'klimono' turned their $55 buy-in into $186,841.09 by outlasting 38,659 other entries in the Main Event (Low). It was the first WCOOP title for the Polish poker player. 5. One of the most prestigious online poker series of the year returns as PokerStars has officially released the complete details for its 19th Annual World Championship of Online Poker. Running from August 30 through September 23, the 2020 WCOOP will feature 75 events each with their customary three buy-in levels (Low, Medium, High) creating a total of 225 tournaments in all. Also, the series boasts nearly $82 million in total guaranteed prize money which amounts to more than $6 million than was promised back in 2019. The series is anchored by the 2020 WCOOP NLHE Main Event, which provides one of the richest online tournaments of the year. This year, the WCOOP Main Event will take place on Sunday, September 20, and play out over four days. The three-tiered buy-ins ($55, $530, $5,200) each have aggressive guarantees with the Low promising $1.25 million, the Medium hitting the $2 million mark and the High Main Event sporting a series-high $10 million guarantee. While the majority of the series is played out as No Limit Hold’em, PokerStars also uses its ability to provide players a wide variety of games. In addition to a Pot Limit Omaha Main Event, players are offered title shots in nearly every discipline the online site has to offer including Limit Hold’em, H.O.R.S.E., 5-Card Draw, 6+ Hold’em (Short Deck), Omaha 8, Razz and Stud Hi/Lo among the 17 games on the schedule. There will be plenty of bonuses available during the series as well. In addition to a $100,000 Player of the Series competition (the details of which have yet to be announced) players can win their share of the $1.5 million WCOOP Sweepstakes. When a player enters a WCOOP tournament, they will receive tickets to the sweepstakes. The higher the buy-in, the more tickets a player will get. During the series, six players will receive a ticket to the $25K Sunday Slam Super High Roller, which takes place on Sunday, September 6, and features a $2 million guarantee. Plus, on every day of the drawing, three players will receive $5,200 Main Event seats. After making its debut during the Stadium Series, PokerStars has also announced that this year’s WCOOP will feature daily cards-up coverage on its Twitch channel. Fans can expect to see James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton, joined by an array of guest commentators, showcasing the action from nearly every event throughout the entire series. Another feature making its way from the Stadium Series to the 2020 WCOOP is the Fast Track format, which allows players to qualify their way from smaller buy-in events to the $5,200 Main Event for a fraction of the cost. All of the action begins on Sunday, August 30 as five events take place, including the opening ‘Phased’ tournament which will play down to a winner on the final day of the series. The only other High buy-in level event to wrap up on Saturday was actually the conclusion of a three-day event. Canadian 'luelue399' beat 493 other entries in event #63 ($2,100 Thursday Thrill) to earn $76,339.09 and another $94,960.93 from bounties. 8. Denis Strebkov and Shaun Deeb sit firmly atop the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker all-time leaderboard with nine and eight titles respectively. The group right behind is growing and coming hard though. On Thursday night, Russia's Andrey Zaichenko moved into a tie for third place all-time after capturing his fifth career WCOOP title. He's now tied with former #1-ranked PocketFiver Dan Kelly and Dzmitry Urbanovich. Zaichenko's win came in Event #62 High ($1,050 Stud Hi Lo) where he outlasted 100 other players to earn the victory and $24,745. Zaichenko, Kelly, and Urbanovich may have company soon. Finland's Jussi 'calvin7v' Nevanlinna won Event #60 Medium ($55 Six Max Pot Limit Omaha) for the fourth WCOOP title of his career. Fabiano Kovalski outlasted 96 other players in Event #59 High ($5,200 NLHE Midweek Freeze) to win $119,483.15 and his third WCOOP title, one in each of the last three years. Currently ranked #43 in the world, the Brazilian won his first WCOOP in 2018 when he took down a $1,050 NLHE event. He followed that up in 2019 by shipping a $530 Four Max NLHE event. The last player that Zaichenko vanquished on the way to his Thursday night win, 'XD89lol<3' didn't have to settle for a runner-up performance. The Finn grabbed the top spot on the podium in Event #64 High ($1,050 Omaha 8-or-better) to earn $30,855.69. 'Pappe_Ruk' bagged their second WCOOP title ever, beating out 417 entries in Event #61 High ($1,050 Six Max NLHE PKO). The win came with $32,452.10 from the prize pool plus an additional $35,644.50 in bounties. There were a handful of first-time winners as well. Germany's 'Sintoras' topped the 184-entry field in Event #60 High ($530 Six Max PLO) to grab the first WCOOP title of their career and a $56,608.50 score. Estonia's Markku 'markovitsus' Koplimaa, who is ranked #21 in the world, won his first COOP title by beating 407 other runners in Event #65 High ($1,050 Six Max NLHE). Glaser, who also owns five Spring Championship of Online Poker titles, defeated Japan's Naoya 'nkeyno' Kihara in Event #55 High ($2,100 HORSE) to win $43,055. This marks the third consecutive year that Glaser has conquered a WCOOP event. In 2018, he won a $55 Six Max Pot Limit Omaha event, and in 2019, he took down a $109 Razz title. Almost as if required, the biggest winner on the day came from Brazil. Vitor Peixoto Moreira defeated Philipp Gruissem heads up to win Event #48 Medium ($530 Sunday Slam) to walk away with $210,236.64, including $72,433.28 from bounties. Gruissem earned $122,785.74 as the second place finisher. For the second time this year, Viktor 'papan9_p$' Ustimov made his way through an entire WCOOP field to claim a title. Ustimov beat out 273 other players in Event #54 High ($1,050 NLHE Win The Button) to earn $52,284.18. It was one week ago that the Russian took down Event #31 High ($530 4 Max NLHE) for his first-ever WCOOP title. Guntis 'poker@luffyD' Aleskins outlasted 1,320 other entries in Event #52 High ($530 Six Max NLHE PKO) for a $76,946.38 payday and his first career WCOOP victory. Beating out 364 other entries in Event #53 High ($530 Pot Limit Omaha) gave Russian 'IExPlayI' their first WCOOP win and $33,236.59. WCOOP 2020 has had a number of players win more than one title. Dante 'dantegoyaF' Goya joined that group on Tuesday by topping the 23,459-entry field in Event #48 Low ($55 NLHE Sunday Slam) for $59,969.23 and another $20,581.02 in bounties. 10. Conor Beresford has held down the #1 spot on the PocketFives Rankings since mid-May but on Wednesday he added something to his list of accomplishments that has been missing until now: a PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker title. Beresford beat fellow Brit Luke 'Bit2Easy' Reeves heads-up to win Event #33 High ($5,200 NLHE High Roller) for a $162,674.33 score and his first WCOOP title. Beresford's previous best WCOOP finish came in 2013 when he finished fourth in a $109 WCOOP Kick-Off event. Reeves wound up earning $125,931.84 for his runner-up finish. German 'Loks82' outlasted 405 other players in Event #32 High ($1,050 NLHE PKO) and then came out on top after the final four players agreed to a deal that chopped up more than $100,000. 'Loks82' took home $26,116.91 from that deal and then added another $35,242.17 worth of bounties. Dzmitry ‘Colisea’ Urbanovich moved into a tie with Dan Kelly for the third most WCOOP titles of all time after shipping Event #34 ($2,100 8-Game). Urbanovich beat a final table that included Mike Watson, Shaun Deeb, and Noah Boeken before finishing the victory off against 'aleksandrs10' heads up. The only players with more WCOOP wins than Urbanovich and Kelly are Deeb (eight wins) and Denis 'aDreNalin710' Strebkov (nine titles). 'Wildace_hun' won his second WCOOP title in as many years by taking down Event #35 High ($2,100 Six Max NLHE Freezeout) to earn $79,781.92. 15. There's very little that Andras 'probirs' Nemeth has not accomplished in his online poker career. The former #1-ranked PocketFiver has amassed more than $17.5 million in online earnings and won nearly every title out there. Except one. Heading into the 2020 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker, the Hungarian poker pro had never won a WCOOP title. That ended on Thursday night as Nemeth beat William 'hellzito' Arruda heads-up to win Event #15 High ($530 NLHE w/rebuys) for $79,655.48 and that first WCOOP title. Russian crusher Arsenii 'josef_shvejk' Karmatckii beat out 451 other entries in Event #13 High ($1,050 NLHE Midweek Freeze) to win his second career WCOOP title. Just 24 hours after winning his second WCOOP title, Ludovic Geilich finished two spots short of another one. Another Russian also earned a WCOOP title on Thursday. 'Bagrovui' took down Event #14 High ($1,050 PLO Six Max) for a $66,449.74 score and the first WCOOP title of their career. Jordi 'prot0' Urlings broke through and won his first career WCOOP title by beating 118 other entries in Event #17 High ($1,050 6+ Hold'em) to earn $26,752.48. Former #1 and current #9-ranked Patrick Leonard took home the bronze medal and $15,736.09. British grinder 'brandon0903' came out on top of the 194-entry field in Event #18 High ($2,100 NLHE) to win $80,642.40. Georgios 'Geokarak' Karakousis finished as the runner-up while the #14-ranked online poker player in the world Jerry 'Perrymejsen' Ödeen came in third place. Other Thursday winners included 'Tayguera' (Event #13 Medium), 'ZNOXYU' (Event #13 Low), 'The_Truht' (Event #14 Medium), 'RrrrStyle' (Event #14 Low), 'MathCamillo1' (Event #15 Medium), 'Janiz_x97' (Event #15 Low), 'nokeee' (Event #17 Medium), 'nikolakiev123' (Event #17 Low), 'MarcGregor89' (Event #18 Medium), and 'humpster76' (Event #18 Low). 16. The opening days of the 19th annual PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker put some familiar faces at final tables but also produced smaller than expected fields as overlays ruled the day at the High level. Dimitar Danchev was the biggest winner from the opening events after taking down Event #2-High ($10,300 8-Max PKO Sunday Slam) for a tad more than $400,000. Danchev earned $152,682.09 from the prize pool and then an additional $247,812.50 in bounties, including the final bounty of fellow PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event champion Mike Watson, who finished runner-up. Watson walked away with $152,681.86 and $45,781.25 in bounties. The final table also included Joao Vieira, Javier Fernandez, and Pieter Aerts. Brazil’s Dante ‘dantegoyaF’ Goya also picked up a six-figure score after outlasting the 127 runners in Event #3-H ($5,200 PLO Six Max High Roller) for $168,607.68. Not only did Goya pick up one of the largest paydays of the opening events, but he also was the biggest beneficiary of added value as this event offered players a $115,000 overlay, falling 23 runners short of hitting the $750,000 guarantee. Alexey ‘LuckyGump’ Makarov from Russia finished as the runner-up collecting $129,313.65 while former #1-ranked PocketFiver Joao ‘IneedMassari’ Simao took home $99,177.07 for third place. ‘DingeBrinker’ took home the title in Event #4-H ($2,100 No Limit Hold'em Freezeout) locking up the $96,143.50 first-place prize in the first major freezeout of the series. Canada’s ‘4rebmun’ finished in second place, walking away with $73,318.70. Pascal 'Päffchen' Hartmann joined them on the podium, adding $55,912.60 to his bankroll. There was another small overlay for players to enjoy in this event as well as PokerStars needed to take $18,000 from the rake to meet the $500,000 guarantee. There was no problem meeting the guarantee of Event #5-H ($530 8 Max Turbo PKO Sunday Cooldown SE) as 1,091 entries piled into the lobby and pushed the prize pool to $545,000. ‘Erictsai7153’ walked away as the winner, earning $38,345.22 for first plus an additional $38,027.19 in bounties for a total score of just over $76,000. ‘.COM??LOL’ settled for second place which brought them $38,344.34 and another $13,296.84 in bounties. Finally, ‘lw3151wwy’ finished in third place for a total score just shy of $30,000. Among the early winners of WCOOP is PokerStars ambassador Benjamin ’Spraggy’ Spragg who made a brief appearance at the final table of Event #5-H where he finished in ninth place for a $5,222.98 score. But at the same time, he was grinding his way through the Low version of the event which had a massive turnout of 12,192 runners. Eventually, Spragg made the final table of that tournament as well only instead of being the first of the final table to fall, he didn’t fall at all. Spragg walked away with the WCOOP title and $3,236.02 for first. plus another $1,113.39 in bounties.
