  2. As a sign of the times, another major live poker series is being brought online. It was announced this week that the Asian Poker Tour has partnered with Natural8 to bring the APT online for the first time in their 12 year history. The APT 2020 Online Series runs April 29 through May 10 and offers 62 events with more than $1.5 million in guaranteed prize money. The series offers a wide array of events with buy-ins ranging from $50 up through the $5,000 Super High Rollers. Although the series has a concentration on No Limit Hold’em players can also find both Pot Limit Omaha and Short Deck events mixed into the schedule. In fact, the series highlights four major events including the 2020 APT $500 Main Event which kicks off on May 3. The Main Event gives players five flights to choose from over the course of three days in an effort to make it into the final stage on May 5 where there is $200,000 guaranteed to fight for. Other major events include the $400 Pot Limit Omaha Championships on May 6, the $400 Short Deck Championships on May 7th, and the $800 Championships event which wraps up on the final day of the series with a $250,000 guarantee. This is new territory for the APT. Since forming back in 2008, the Asian Poker Tour has grown to become a premier poker brand in the Asia-Pacific market. In their first year, the tour only offered two Main Events, which were won by infamous Australian cash game pro David Saab and well-known tournament grinder Yevgeny Timoshenko. Over the next few years later the tour picked up traction and by 2012, the APT was offering 10 stops in a year. Now in 2020, two APT events have already taken place with at least six more events still on the schedule even after the cancellation of APT Philippines and the postponement of APT Tokyo due to COVID-19 concerns. Of course, the APT is just one of many live poker tours that are being forced to make adjustments due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last month, the World Poker Tour announced that they would be teaming up with partypoker to present their very first online series in their 18-year history. In the past two weeks, the World Series of Poker officially postponed the 2020 WSOP summer series as well as announced a partnership with GGPoker to bring players outside of the United States a WSOP Circuit Super Series. Like other live series that have taken place online, including the Irish Poker Open, the APT will reap some of the benefits of taking their series online. In addition to a broader customer base, allowing players from around the world to participate, Natural8 will be running over 180 qualifiers giving players access to the biggest events on the schedule for as little as $6. Additionally, Natural8, which is part of the GGPoker Network, will also be able to offer its unique in-client staking platform, allowing players to sell pieces of themselves for select events. However, the APT isn’t forgoing all of their live traditions however, as winners of the events will be shipped actual trophies and a leaderboard will determine the APT Player of the Series.
