  1. [caption width="640"] New Jersey players now have another online series to look forward to with PokerStars NJ SCOOP.[/caption] PokerStars is wasting no time making its presence known in New Jersey, announcing the first ever New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker. With $1.1 million in guaranteed prize money, the series promises to be the biggest one ever held since the state regulated online gaming. The inaugural championship will take place from May 15-29 and feature 27 events, run in both high-stakes and low-stakes formats, for a grand total of 54 tournaments. The two-week schedule will culminate with a $50 (low) and $500 (high) No Limit Hold'em Main Event, offering $30,000 and $200,000 in guaranteed cash, respectively. The series offers myriad tournament formats and variants, including Three-Max Hypers, Six-Max Turbos, Ultra Knockouts and Progressive Super Knockouts, among others. Buy-ins start as low as $10 and go all the way up to $1,000 for the No Limit Hold'em High Roller tournament on Tuesday, May 24. Other standout tournaments include: $150 buy-in No Limit Hold'em, $30,000 guarantee (Sunday, May 15) $250 buy-in No Limit Hold'em, $100,000 guarantee (Sunday, May 15) $300 buy-in No Limit Hold'em Six-Max Turbo (Sunday, May 15) $100 buy-in No Limit Hold'em [1R1A] (Monday, May 16) $100 buy-in No Limit Hold'em Zoom (Wednesday, May 25) "The global PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker is one of the must-play poker events of the year," said 2003 WSOP Main Event champ and Team PokerStars pro Chris Moneymaker. "It's awesome that it’s coming to New Jersey so that players in the region can experience the exciting tournament structures and the thrill that comes with chasing a major tournament title and big prize money." "I can’t wait to play in the first NJSCOOP and I plan to stream most of my play live on Twitch. I would love to win a title in its debut year," said Moneymaker. Player of the Series Leaderboard Consistent series winners will have a chance to win even more prizes by placing on the Player of the Series Leaderboard. Each time a player cashes in an event, they’ll receive points awarded on a sliding scale. The top earners, for both the low and high-stakes tiers, will share in $10,000 in prizes, with the overall winner taking home a trophy and $2,000 cash. Also up for grabs are two spots on Team USA for the Americas Cup of Poker live event, which will be played out at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City from June 24-25. There, players will compete for at least $100,000 in guaranteed cash. PokerStars received its license to operate in New Jersey late last year after undergoing heavy scrutiny by New Jersey regulators. The site decided to delay its launch, however, until last month. With its $1.1 million in NJSCOOP guarantees, the online poker giant narrowly eclipses partypoker’s Garden State Super Series, which gave away $1 million in prizes in its event last year. If you don't already have a PokerStarsNJ account you can sign up here and get yourself some of the $1.1 million in guaranteed NJSCOOP prizes.
  2. [caption width="640"] The first ever NJSCOOP Main Event goes Sunday.[/caption] If PokerStars executives had any anxiety about turnout for the inaugural New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker, they can rest easy now. Over the first week and a half of play, Garden State poker players turned out in droves for the series, covering 37 out of 44 total guarantees. That's good news for everybody with the Main Event set for Sunday. While some of New Jersey's best have dominated the first week and a half of play, a former WSOP Main Event champ stole the show on Thursday night. Chris Moneymaker won the High editon of the Pot Limit Omaha event. Moneymaker, playing under the screenname 'Money800NJ' beat out 45 other players to win $5,397 in the $150 buy-in event. NJSCOOP features low and high buy-in editions of its events, excluding the middle tier offered in PokerStars’ main SCOOP series. The tournament’s first day of action included three No Limit Hold‘em tournaments along with a Pot Limit Omaha event. A player, fittingly named ‘1stp1ace’, took the top spot in the first high event of the series, banking a prize of $1,015. In Event #2, a $100,000 gauranteed NLHE tournament, ‘Richardv1109’ bested ‘9islive’ for a $22,327 payday. In the $20,000 guaranteed companion event, ‘maddoggrik’ found his way to the top, taking home a $4,382 score in the process. Later in the day at the $40,000 guaranteed event, ‘TeethofBags’ came out on top, adding $8,945 to his bankroll. Sunday’s NLHE $30 buy-in event was the first tournament to miss its guarantee. ‘JohnnyMania’ took the top spot in that contest, beating out ‘Pokersanz715’ for a $2,902 payday. Monday’s first two events of the day also failed to meet their guarantees. The final two No Limit Hold‘em tournaments, however, easily surpassed their target prize pools, with ‘HowieWelper’ outlasting 95 opponents in the high event to win the $6,886 first-place prize. Both of Tuesday’s events covered, with the Eight Game low tournament doubling the $5,000 guarantee. Wednesday featured just one event, a No Limit Hold‘em Four Max contest. The high tournament went to Scooby-D0O for $10,175, with ‘#3lynvhmob’ taking the low for $1,708. Thursday’s biggest payday went to ‘0ceans07’, who banked $6,672 for winning the $25,000 guaranteed NLHE event. PokerStars changed the pace a bit that day by offering two Limit Stud tournaments, both of which covered. On the docket for the following day were two NLHE/PLO tournaments, with $15,000 guaranteed for the high, and $5,000 reserved for the low. In the high event, Scooby-D0O claimed his second title of the series along with a $1,966 prize. ‘ForTheThr1ll’ took home the biggest payday on Saturday when he defeated ‘Stever625’ to pocket $4,338. Neither guarantees on Sunday were met, although the day’s low tournament attracted a respectable 505 runners. 158 players turned out for the Event #15 $25,000 guaranteed NLHE rebuy tournament. Player ‘MrKK1985’ banked the top payout of the day, taking home $8,334 for his victory over the unfortunately named player ‘NewJerseySux.’ NJ grinder ‘DerekSutton0’ found his way to the top of the day’s second NLHE event, taking the first-place prize of $4,427. Tuesday’s Pot Limit Omaha tournaments both doubled their guarantees, with ‘pwrdysteam’ winning the high and ‘muirheadt’ taking the low. Later in the day, the $1,000 buy-in $100,000 guaranteed High Roller event played out and saw ‘SGTPowell’ besting ‘solidluck’ to take the title and a $27,743 payday. The event’s low buy-in equivalent attracted a large crowd of 487 runners, who created a $44,700 prize pool. When all was said and done, ‘SneakyPete85’ came out on top for a $7,528 score, with Scooby-D0O once again cashing, this time for $6,599. On Wednesday, 281 players turned out for the $20,000 guaranteed Zoom event, with ‘0verbot : )’ triumphing over the competition for a $5,235 score. The action continued Thursdya with a pair of 1R1A Pot Limit Omaha tournaments. ‘Money800NJ’ took the high edition for $5,397, with ‘DellaBarca7’ locking up the low for $1,139. Later, 239 runners generated a $22,000 prize pool during the day’s $100 NLHE event. ‘J3Bl@ckP0pe’ claimed victory and took home the $4,486 first-place prize. The Main Event Only a few tournaments remain before NJSCOOP’s dual Main Events kick off on Sunday. The Main Event tournaments will be played out over two days and boast unlimited re-entries during an extended registration period. The High event features a $200,000 guarantee with a $500 buy-in. Four places will be paid, with first receiving at least $90,000, second taking $60,000 and third banking $30,000. The Low tournament sports a $30,000 guarantee along with a more affordable $50 buy-in. First place will go home with $30,000.

Nightly Stars is a $100 nightly tournament beginning at 7 PM, which boasts a $10,000 guarantee, the biggest of all the daily events. Change-Up is made up of three tournaments with buy-ins of $5, $15 and $20. As the name implies, these events shake things up by offering Omaha Hi-Lo, Omaha and Stud. Moonlight Express is a $20 buy-in late-night tournament which kicks off at 11 PM. It features a Hyper-Turbo structure and a $1,000 guarantee. Check out the PokerStarsNJ Tournament Schedule including all the information on the marquee events, the Sunday Majors. Spin n Gos One of the latest innovations from PokerStars is the Spin n Go tournament. These three-handed events allow you to win up a massive prize each time out, as long as the pre-tournament spin of the wheel goes your way. Each tournament has a randomly assigned prize pool ranging from 2X to 3000X the buy-in that you won't know about until you buy-in. Zoom Poker Similar to Full Tilt Poker’s Rush Poker, Zoom is a fast-paced game that means never having to wait for another hand. As soon you as fold your hold (or choose fold as a pre-selected action) you’re moved to a new table and dealt another hand. The game moves quickly and makes sure there is never a dull moment. It’s currently available for both No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha. Check out our PokerStars NJ FAQ for answers to any questions you may have.
  4. [caption width="650"] David 'dehhhhh' Coleman went back-to-back to finish #1 in New Jersey for the second consecutive month.[/caption] PokerStarsNJ NJSCOOP dominated the New Jersey online poker landscape in May and the New Jersey Online Poker Rankings were shaken up as a result. The one thing that did not change, though, is the #1 ranked player in the state, as David ‘dehhhhh’ Coleman retained his top spot among New Jersey’s finest. Coleman cashed 15 times during NJSCOOP and saved his best result for the biggest event of the series. The $500 buy in $200,000 guaranteed NJSCOOP Main Event drew 435 total entrants and Coleman came up just shy of besting them all and finished second. The $27,218 Coleman earned for his finish is his largest career online score. Making a big leap from seventh all the way up to second is Mike ‘Lav519’ Lavenburg. Lavenburg notched six NJSCOOP in-the-money finishes and also claimed 12 first place victories. The largest of those wins came at the start of the month when Lavenburg won the WSOP.com $500 Big Deal for $9,600. As a result of Lavenburg’s ascension, former NJ Online #1 Yong ‘ykwon17’ Kwon drops to third. Kwon became the second player in New Jersey history to break the $1,000,000 mark in career earnings in May. Additionally, Kwon won eight events including the WSOP.com Spring Poker Series Main Event for $12,950. Daniel ‘centrfieldr’ Lupo and Daniel ‘wildman75’ Buzgon flip-flopped the fourth and fifth place spot, respectively. Lupo earned an NJSCOOP win in the $200 HORSE event for $3,801. Buzgon had an excellent NJSCOOP that was highlighted by two victories on May 10. Buzgon won the $200 Bubble Rush and the $50 8-Game event effectively simultaneously for a combined $5,800. Overall, Buzgon cashed a whopping 25 times in NJSCOOP. Moving down from third to sixth is Jeremy ‘Jermz’ Danger. The first player to hit the $1,000,000 mark in New Jersey, Danger put in his standard high volume and picked up six wins in the month of May. In seventh place is Craig ‘craigruby’ Rubenstein, who cashed nine times in NJSCOOP and won Event 27-H: $100 No Limit Hold’em $15,000 guaranteed for $5,130. For the second straight month, Mike ‘MikeyCasino’ Azzaro and Fred ‘BiggDaddy’ Ferrell. Azzaro spent most of the month playing non-New Jersey sites and Ferrell won a solid 17 events. Both players are currently in Las Vegas for the time being and will be back to New Jersey soon to return to the online grind. Jason ‘JLaw’ Lawhun rounds out the top-10. Lawhun won the NJSCOOP Heads Up High event for $7,000, the largest of his six wins in May. 7. Ross 'Acanthopis' Gottlieb had himself an interesting weekend at the Borgata Spring Poker Open. The New Jersey veterinarian cashed in two events in a single day to earn himself over $10,000. What started as a day of heartbreak soon turned into an epic night of grinding. Gottlieb is on a run as of late on both the online and live felt and is feeling great about his game heading into the summer. It’s “uncommon” for Gottlieb to have a full weekend off to play poker. He took advantage of his available Friday to play the $100,000 guaranteed Six Max. Gottlieb bagged a middle of the road stack for Day 2 after battling with Tom Cannuli and Will Failla at this table and had a chance to play for the $40,000 first-place prize. Saturday started as bad as possible for Gottlieb. He lost pocket kings against aces on the third hand of play and was not sure about how to proceed with the rest of the day. “It didn’t start off so great in the Six Max,” Gottlieb obliged. “I was pretty annoyed, you start cursing your luck but you realize you’re fortunate enough to make it that deep. I didn’t really want to play the Saturday Series but I got some food and decided to play.” The one-day $100,000 guaranteed marathon Saturday Series was a few levels in when Gottlieb sat down. Instantly, he was among one of the chip leaders. “It’s relatively easy to spin up a stack in that event. By the 500/1,000 level, I was at 100,000 and cruising.” The success of Gottlieb in a fast-paced structure is attributed to his online reps. At the Winter Poker Open in January, Gottlieb won the Saturday Series in an eight-way deal for a $28,433 score. “In the earlier levels, it’s easy to three-bet to weaker players at the table and they can’t do much about it. I’ve been really focused lately and been playing more than I ever have.” A fifth-place result was Gottlieb’s fate in the Saturday Series. A shallow final table leads to variance but it’s not a factor Gottlieb is unfamiliar with. In fact, he recalls exact events from New Jersey online that helped him play live for what is a larger prize pool. “In the Super Tuesday online on PokerStars, it’s pretty similar. That one in general and the Tuesday showdown on WSOP, everyone at the final table has 15 bigs. A lot of times when you go deep, there’s a ton of flip situations that you find online. When you’re playing some of the larger tournaments live, you don’t have to take those spots.” The recent volume of Gottlieb equals a win in the 888NJ Ultimate Warrior on March 5 for $11,770 and a fourth-place finish this week in the PokerStarsNJ NJSCOOP $1,000 High Roller. A week before the next edition of the New Jersey Online Rankings is released, Gottlieb toes the line of the top-10. Gottlieb multi-tables online but never before experienced two straight 12 hour days of playing a live tournament as he did last week. “It was quite tiring,” Gottlieb said. In the hours he plays for thousands of dollars instead of tens of thousands in live scenarios, Gottlieb is preparing himself for when the money becomes life-changing. Gottlieb stayed on the sidelines last summer and scheduled two weeks to be out in Las Vegas starting with the Millionaire Maker event. A culmination of Gottlieb’s work comes together this weekend for the NJSCOOP Main Event. The $200,000 guaranteed tournament includes a $30,000 PokerStars Platinum Pass. The prospect of playing for added equity excites Gottlieb, who believes this tournament is going to contain the largest prize pool in New Jersey online history. I think that’s pretty absurd that we get the chance to play for the platinum pass,” Gottlieb stated. “We’re going to fire as much as we need to. Even if you get close to it, you get okay money for the final table. I’m hoping that they’re going to hand out a couple more passes, that this isn’t it. It would be cool to play a $25K. First place is going to be absurd but I’m going to be comfortable because of my familiarity with the spots. I’m hoping that I’ve been channeling it all for the deep run in main.” Does the first Platinum Pass in New Jersey have Ross Gottlieb’s name on it? He’ll soon find out.
  8. Poker talent grows across the United States within players who hone their craft online. How an online player might perform live during the summer is anyone's guess. American PocketFivers did well last summer, headlined by Scott 'Sblum2711' Blumstein's win in the World Series of Poker Main Event. Blumstein's run came as a surprise to many and he likely would not have been on a "top-5" list for a similar preview at this time last year. The five players below are all qualified in their own right. Repeating Blumstein's performance might be a lofty goal but expect to see all of these American PocketFivers on a few Day 3 leaderboards this summer. Ali 'ali23imsirovic' Imsirovic A dominator on the non-regulated sites, Imsirovic crushes live poker as well. Imsirovic topped a tough field in April at the Borgata Spring Poker Open Main Event to win his major event along with $246,066. At only 23-years-old, Imsirovic is already playing $25,000 High Rollers on a consistent basis including the U.S. Poker Open and the recent Bellagio High Roller. A Sunday Million win this March plays a large role in Imsirovic's standing as the #1 American PocketFiver. Imsirovic awaits his breakout score on poker's biggest stage and is expected to play most of the major No Limit events both at the Rio and around The Strip. Michael 'Gags30' Gagliano It almost feels like cheating to put Gagliano on a 'player to watch' list but his consistent online success makes him tough to ignore. Gagliano topped the New Jersey Online Rankings for most of 2018 and won an NJSCOOP title in May. On the live side, Gagliano only has two cashes in 2018. Recent summers in Las Vegas suggest Gagliano is due to turn that trend around. In 2016, Gagliano won his first career bracelet in the $2,500 No Limit Hold'em event. The next year, he followed up that performance with a $1,500 NLHE final table and a third-place finish in the $3,000 Six-Max. A loaded summer schedule for Gagliano makes him a favorite to notch at least one memorable run this year. Jed 'JCHAK' Hoffman Hoffman stands as one of the most elite players in the history of Nevada online. A browse through the WSOP Nevada lobby on Sundays equals the familiar sight of Hoffman's simple and striking screenname. The Reno resident is making a name for himself in the mid-major events on the West Coast. Hoffman locked up a seat in the WSOP Circuit Global Championship thanks in large part to assertive performances in two Circuit Main Events. November's Lake Tahoe Main Event equaled fourth-place for Hoffman and he preceded that run with a fifth-place ribbon at Thunder Valley in September. Hoffman's best finish last summer was 12th in the $3,333 Online High Roller. He also owns a WSOP $1,500 NLHE final table dating back to 2013. David 'dehhhhh' Coleman The feared name of 'Coles93' on PokerStarsNJ is over the $1.1 million mark in career online tournament earnings. Coleman is slowly building a live portfolio for himself with a cash in the 2017 WSOP Main Event as the highlight so far. $80,600 is where Coleman's live winnings stand thanks to cashes in the Borgata Winter and Spring Poker Open Main Events along with March's Parx 1500. Coleman's schedule this summer is undetermined but he is the most likely of the New Jersey grinders to strike big thanks to the experience of 156 online wins. Kou 'ktyven' Vang Consistent is the best way to describe Vang. The Minnesota native has over $1.3 million in earnings with a high score of $78,421. Vang's location prevents him from playing regulated online poker but he is up to #5 in the United States. The Venetian hosted a win for Vang last summer in the $1,100 Bounty event worth $68,300. Vang awaits his first six-figure score and is a favorite to play the majority of what is available at any property this summer.
  9. New Jersey online poker players mark your calendars, PokerStars has released the schedule for their annual New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker series. Taking place from May 4-20, the 82-event series (41 High and 41 Low events) features buy-ins for every bankroll and over $1 million in total guarantees. With 82 total events, PokerStars has afforded themselves the ability to try and appeal to poker players from across the entire landscape. Of course, No Limit Hold’em is the predominant format offered. However, the PokerStars client is one of the few that is able to offer a much wider variety of poker variants, and they have put that on display during NJSCOOP. In addition to NLHE events, there is plenty of opportunity for players to switch it up by jumping in Pot Limit Omaha, Pot Limit Hi-Lo, Pot Limit Five Card Omaha, Limit Stud and Eight Game Mixed tournaments. The schedule keeps things fresh by continually switching up poker formats. The popular Progressive KO is featured heavily during the series and there are a number of Win The Button tournaments. Players who like to play short-handed will not be disappointed as there are a number of tournaments that feature Eight Max and Six Max, right down to a heads-up tournament. In total, the guarantees add up to $1,035,500, which is slightly down from the roughly $1.3 million In guarantees offered in 2018. The notable reduction of the guarantees is seen in the higher buy-in tournaments such as the $1,000 High Roller, where the guarantee is $45,000 in 2019, down from $65,000 last year. The most notable downsizing is in the $500 2-Day Main Event, which kicks off on May 19. This year, it has a $130,000 guarantee attached, while just last year the contest promised $200,000. The Low Main Event remains the same $50 buy-in with a $40,000 guarantee. 10. PokerStars is giving online poker players in the Garden State something big to look forward to. On Friday, the online poker giant revealed the complete schedule for the fifth edition of their New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker with $1.2 million in guaranteed prize money. The 2020 PokerStars NJSCOOP is taking place between April 11-27 and arrives with an expanded schedule of 48 events. Each of the 48 events features both a “High” and a “Low” buy-in, making for a total of 96 individual tournaments, a significant increase over their 41 event offering of 2019. The schedule has just about everything an online poker grinder could ask for. Of course, it comes with a healthy dose of No Limit Hold'em. But players of all games can find a tournament to circle on their calendars with Pot Limit Omaha, Seven Card Stud, Eight Game, and additional Omaha variants sprinkled in over the course of the multi-week schedule. Main Event Modifications While PokerStars is increasing the number of tournaments, they have actually pulled back when it comes to their Main Events. As in previous years, the series will culminate in a pair of Main Events, one High and one Low, but for the second year in a row, players will see a reduction in the guarantee. This year’s Main Event High has a $100,000 guarantee attached, down from the $130,000 guarantee of 2019. That was reduced from the $200,000 guarantee of 2018. However, it’s not an 'apples-to-apples' comparison because along with the guarantee reduction, PokerStars has made the Main Event High a little more affordable, reducing the buy-in from $500 down to $300 this year. The more attractive price point may, in fact, help funnel more players into the Main Event High. In 2019, when Anthony ‘FlawlessBINK’ Maio took down the $500 buy-in event for nearly $25,000, the tournament only drew 254 runners. This created an overlay of over $10,000 (excluding fees) for PokerStars. With the reduced Main Event High buy-in, PokerStars is going to need 357 players to avoid an overlay, but they will also have an easier time qualifying players. The Main Event High is receiving a guarantee and a buy-in reduction, the Main Event Low is just seeing a reduction in the guarantee. The tournament will stay at the same $50 price point from the past but will be reduced from a $40,000 guarantee down to a $30,000 guarantee. Qualify For The Main For players in New Jersey looking to win their way into the Main Event this year, PokerStars is again offering a number of ways to get in for cheap. The cheapest way is the 30 seat $300 Main Event High guarantee freeroll for players who make a new deposit. Additionally, the online site is offering a special NJSCOOP edition of their popular three-handed $3 Spin & Go’s between March 31-April 26 where the top prize will award Main Event High tickets. 11. PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker is coming to Pennsylvania. The first-ever PASCOOP is set to take place from April 4-20 with a massive $2 million in guaranteed prize money. The online poker series, which starts next Saturday, has 50 events on the schedule. Just like the 2020 New Jersey SCOOP series, Pennsylvania’s will also feature both a “High” and a “Low” buy-in, for a total of 100 tournaments, with buy-ins ranging from as little as $5 up to $500. [ptable zone="888poker"][ptable zone="Party Poker NJ"][ptable zone="Global Poker Article Ad"] Of course, the schedule is heavily weighted to No Limit Hold’em events of different varieties. Standard tournaments are broken up with the addition of Progressive Knockouts, 6-Max and 8-Max events, Zoom, Big Antes and Hyper-Turbos among other formats. Other poker disciplines are also represented throughout the schedule. Pot Limit Omaha, 8-Game, Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, and No Limit Omaha 8 players will all get their own PASCOOP title events to battle over. Record-Setting Main Event The series will build to a pair of two-day Main Events that start on April 19. The Main Event High carries a $300 buy-in with a $200,000 guarantee, making it twice as big as the 2020 NJSCOOP Main Event. The PASCOOP Main Event Low offers a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool for just a $50 buy-in. The $200,000 guarantee on the Main Event High is likely to set a record PokerStars PA. Even though every online poker series the company has run has been overwhelmingly successful, they have yet to see Main Event in PA hit $200,000. Back in December, the debut of the PokerStars Pennsylvania Championship of Online Poker included a Main Event with a $100,000 guarantee. After seeing how players were smashing their original projections early in the series, PokerStars gave the tournament a ‘guarantee boost’ and bumped it up to $125,000. That number was no problem as a total of 640 entries pushed the PACOOP Main Event prize pool to over $179,000, making it the largest MTT in PA's brief history in regulated online poker. It should be no surprise that PokerStars is being aggressive with PASCOOP. Since Day 1, players in the Keystone State have shown a healthy appetite for online poker, routinely beating guarantees in special online series as well as the weekly Sunday Majors. Add to that the current situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic and the online site, which remains the only online poker operator in Pennsylvania, has seen a surge of players logging on and taking shots in online tournaments. Helping put people into the Main Event virtual seats are non-stop qualifiers with guaranteed seats running the entire week leading up to the start of PASCOOP as well as throughout the series. In addition to the super satellites, PokerStars is offering a $15K Main Event Depositor Freeroll on April 19 with 50 total seats being given away to the $300 Main Event High. In addition to the 100 tournaments of the series, for players who enter any PASCOOP event but fall short of the cash, PokerStars will be running Daily $1K Second Chance All-In Shootout Freerolls. You get entered and those lucky enough to win a series of all-in hands will have some money put back in their bankrolls. The debut of PokerStars’ PASCOOP is on Saturday, April 4.
