  1. The world's largest online poker room is getting ready to celebrate another milestone on its road to 100 billion hands. At the time of writing, PokerStarsis about 50 million hands shy of 80 billion and has pulled out all the stops to celebrate in style. The 80 billionth hand will likely be dealt during the day on Sunday, when its patron are busy playing in tournaments like the Sunday Million, Sunday Warm-Up, and Sunday 500. Sign up for PokerStars. Despite being known for hosting some of the world's largest poker tournaments, PokerStars is focusing on cash games for its 80 billionth hand. Text found on PokerStars' website heralds, "There's up to $1,000,000 in cash to play for, and to be... a winner, simply play PokerStars cash game tables and be dealt into a millionth hand from 79,700,000,000 to 80,000,000,000. If you're successful, you'll receive a cash prize that could be worth thousands of dollars. If you're good enough to win the big 80 billionth hand, you will receive at least $20,000." Every millionth hand dealt on PokerStars' cash game tables is dubbed a Milestone Hand. And if you participate in one, you're in for a treat. If you're dealt into a Milestone Hand, PokerStars will give you a $20 base prize plus $60 for each VIP Player Point, or VPP, generated in the previous 50 hands. If you win a Milestone Hand, your prize is doubled. The payout structure could mean thousands of dollars in prizes to PokerStars players. The 80 billionth hand is shaping up to be quite monumental. Anyone dealt into that hand will win a base prize of $10,000 plus $1,000 for every VPP earned in the previous 50 hands. Yes, that's just if you're dealt into the hand. If you win the 80 billionth hand on PokerStars, your prize is doubled. For example, if you've earned 60 VPPs over the previous 50 hands and are dealt into the 80 billionth hand, you'll get $70,000. If you win the hand, your prize will be doubled to $140,000. That's a lot of cash just for playing some cards. There are 300 Milestone Hands in total and, as an important caveat, Zoom Poker tables are not eligible for Milestone Hands. Instead, you'll need to head to traditional cash game tables in order to reap any of the benefits of PokerStars' 80 billionth hand celebration. PokerStars' cash game traffic has been accelerated in recent days because of the 80 billionth hand promotion. The world's largest internet poker room has seen peak cash game player counts of over 50,000 the past five days, according to PokerScout. In the two months prior to the promotion starting, PokerStars had not attracted more than 50,000 real money ring game players on any day. This month, PokerStars is also doubling the number Depositor Freerolls: "The $100K Depositor Freerolls are being doubled for May, giving you twice as much value on your deposit. Simply make a deposit and you'll be rewarded with entry to eight $1,000 freerolls per day for 31 days - that's more than $200,000 in free tournament value." The $1,000 freerolls run at 01:00 ET, 04:00 ET, 07:00 ET, 10:00 ET, 13:00 ET, 16:00 ET, 19:00 ET, and 22:00 ET. In order to be eligible for them, use the bonus code STARS600 when you sign up for the first time, or 100K when you reload. Finally, PokerStars is holding a special freeroll on May 13th at 2:30pm ET for PocketFives readers. It's a winner-take-all freebie for a $1,050 ticket into the 27th event of the Spring Championship of Online Poker, or SCOOP. We'd like to thank PokerStars for bringing this type of value to the PocketFives community. This tournament is password-protected, and we'll be announcing the magic word next week in the PocketFives forums. All new PokerStars sign-ups get a 100% up to $600 first time deposit bonus. Create your PokerStars account here and show your support for the PocketFives community.

This time around, $250 in cash, 150,000 Hog Bucks, PocketFives Gear, and a brand new HDTV will be on the line, and every single league event is free. There is no cost to enter any event, and each one is open to U.S. players. Where you finish in each league tournament will determine your standing on an overall leaderboard. Sign up for the league. At the conclusion of the May 22nd tournament, HogWild Poker will dish out prizes including cash, PocketFives Gear, and Hog Bucks to the top 10 players on the leaderboard as follows: 1st Place: $150 cash 2nd Place: $50 cash + PocketFives t-shirt 3rd Place: $30 cash + PocketFives t-shirt 4th Place: $20 cash + PocketFives t-shirt 5th Place: 25,000 Hog Bucks 6th Place: 25,000 Hog Bucks 7th Place: 25,000 Hog Bucks 8th Place: 25,000 Hog Bucks 9th Place: 25,000 Hog Bucks 10th Place: 25,000 Hog Bucks We mentioned that we're also giving away a brand new HDTV. Similar to what occurred in April, we'll be awarding an HDTV as part of a special tournament on Tuesday, May 29th. The tournament won't count toward the May league standings; rather, it will be a special event that ships an HDTV to the winner. We gave away a 32" Westinghouse LED HDTV in April in a special HogWild Poker tournament held at the end of the month, and we're looking forward to a healthy-sized field once again. This event is completely free to play, which means it will provide a ton of value to anyone who enters. We'll also post a reminder about it as it draws closer in case you forget. Shawn PokerRoman1 Murphy took down the April HogWild Poker PocketFives league and won a brand new PlayStation Vita. He's a New York City resident who has been a member of PocketFives for the last four years. Nice job, Babe Ruth. Here's a look at the top five finishers from April. They'll now compete in a $500 cash-added Top Hog tournament: 1st Place: PokerRoman1 2nd Place: xxbossmanxx 3rd Place: Martin Brody 4th Place: Alewife1 5th Place: sweetdog22 The second place finisher in April's PocketFives HogWild Poker League, xxbossmanxx on PocketFives, told the community that he was pumped to win a PlayStation: "I set out to do it and did it! Nice to see poker has not passed me by since I had not played any tourneys for over a year. Thank you P5s for the league and a new Vita!" Our runner-up hails from Detroit and joined PocketFives way back in 2007. Other comments about HogWild Poker's software and the April league were as follows: "It was nice to play a semi-real game online again. Thanks for running, P5s." "Had a great time and will definitely be making a regular appearance." "I thought it was kind of a cool feature to be able to see when opponents checked their cards. Looking forward to being a regular participant in this league. Thanks P5s for helping us U.S.-based players be able to play a little poker on the interwebs!" Sign up for HogWild Poker today. We'll see you starting on Tuesday, May 1st for the weekly PocketFives League. You can find these in the DailyJoust fantasy sports lobby, so be on the lookout. And remember, USA players are welcome with open arms since fantasy sports received a carve-out from the UIGEA in 2006. Referring friends to DailyJoust could also land you a spot in the $10,000 Super Joust, as the three members with the most number of referrals will automatically qualify. Joining the trio will be the winners of any $300 King John NBA, NHL, or College Basketball tournament. Finally, the three players with the most heads-up NBA, NHL, or College Basketball wins will punch their entries into the April 18th finale. What happens if you qualify more than once? Text found on DailyJoust indicates that you'll get an edge: "Users who qualify in multiple ways will get to enter the same number of teams as the number of ways that they qualify, up to a maximum of five team entries in the Super Joust. For example, if a user wins the King James NBA tournament twice, they will get two entries in the Super Joust." The top 15 finishers in the Super Joust will walk away with cash, and the top spot also heads to the NBA Finals: 1st Place: $3,000 plus two tickets to the NBA Finals 2nd Place: $2,000 3rd Place: $1,000 4th Place: $800 5th Place: $700 6th Place: $600 7th Place: $500 8th Place: $400 9th Place: $300 10th Place: $200 11th Place: $100 12th Place: $100 13th Place: $100 14th Place: $100 15th Place: $100 There is a complete list of players who have qualified for the Super Joust fantasy NBA tournament available on DailyJoust's website. At the time of writing, about 60 teams have made their way into the $10,000 finale, so there's still plenty of room for you to get in as well. Remember, DailyJoust is a daily fantasy sports site, so the Super Joust finale will be played as such. If you're not familiar with daily fantasy sports, you get to pick a brand new team every single day (see picture at right). You're not doomed if your snake draft flops or you suffer a key injury. Instead, you'll select a new team every time you want to play using a salary cap. Each player counts a certain amount against your cap and you'll fill out an entire roster for one night only. It's instant gratification. Daily fantasy sports games allow you to take advantage of factors like match-ups, streaks, and injuries. Ride the Lin-sanity all the way to victory or go with a team of proven veterans - you pick. DailyJoust has multiple tournaments that start at $10 or less and provides a low budget way for you to get your feet wet in the wonderful world of daily fantasy games. Sign up for DailyJoust today.
  9. If you haven't already heard, HogWild Pokeris launching an online league for PocketFives members, and they're giving an iPad 2 to the winner of the February series. Four free league games are scheduled every Tuesday in February at 9 pm ET. And they're all open to PocketFives members from the United States since the site isn't rake-based: Tuesday, February 7th at 9:00pm ET Tuesday, February 14th at 9:00pm ET Tuesday, February 21st at 9:00pm ET Tuesday, February 28th at 9:00pm ET The contest rules are simple - players will earn points based on their order of finish and the total number of finishers in the game. For example, the winner of a game with 70 finishers will receive 70 points. Points are not awarded for no-shows. At the end of February, the player with the highest total number of points wins. In case of a tie, there will be a playoff. Sign up for HWP. The PocketFives promotion is part of HogWild's overall approach to encourage a higher competitive level. "We continue to reach out to more sophisticated players," said Hogwild CEO Jeff Amrein. "We pride ourselves on hosting some of the highest quality play of any U.S.-legal site. We look for - and reward - skill. I've been on PocketFives for years, and it'll be fun to see how the P5ers will do against our other players." A free league-based platform, HogWild is built around the "Series" concept, in which a player's skill is proven over multiple games. In addition to frequent contests like the iPad giveaway, HogWild hosts a monthly $500 freeroll where leagues send their best five players to a team-style championship. After the game, cash is paid out to both team and individual winners. The HogWild platform lets players customize and run their own poker leagues - whether they are small, private games or big, open leagues with international players. League owners set the blinds, schedule the games and decide on the house rules. It's free to run leagues and play on HogWild, but there are some optional features in the system that take a proprietary currency called HogBucks. Every player receives 5,000 HogBucks when they join, and they get more when they do things such as win with certain hands, knock out house bounties, recruit other players, and participate in various contests. "HogBucks make playing here more fun," said Amrein. "You can use them for Prop Bets or Open Tables, and soon they'll get you into special events and competitions." U.S. players are welcome to participate, as the site does not currently allow deposits. And unlike other U.S.-friendly platforms, there are no subscription packages to buy nor display ads or banners. According to Amrein, "HogWild was built to emphasize the player-engagement aspects of poker." To that end, HogWild has developed some unusual communication tools such as voice chat, texted game reminders, and "social"-style league walls and chat rooms. One of the site's many other innovations is hole cards that are dealt down, but "light up" when you look at them. "It definitely improves your hole card memory," said Amrein, "Peeking at your cards at the wrong time can be a clear tell." HogWild Poker also holds regular freerolls and promotions that give players a chance to win live event buy-ins. In addition to the PocketFives' iPad 2 contest, another program is starting in March that Amrein says "will be very exciting to aspiring pros." To sign up for the PocketFives league or get more information, go to HogWildPokerLeagues.com.
  10. Starting at the beginning of the day GMT on February 1st, you'll want to head to PartyPoker, one of the world's largest online poker rooms. The beginning of February will usher in a $1,000 PocketFives Leaderboard, or PLB competition, that will send the top 10 players to a special 10-man sit and go. Everyone who makes the sit and go will take home a prize and it's quite easy to get signed up. Let's take a look at this contest, which will run for all 29 days of February. In order to play, add your PartyPoker name to your PocketFives profile and then click here to opt in. We've had nearly 100 players do so already and cordially invite you throw your hat into the ring. Your place on the competition's leaderboard depends on your performance in scheduled multi-table tournaments with at least a $1 buy-in, at least $500 in the prize pool, and at least 75 players. This PLB competitionvaries from other ones we've run in that the qualifying tournament buy-in is capped at $11, so only scheduled MTTs with buy-ins of $11 or below will be tracked. This gives players of all bankrolls the ability to participate and we're pleased to hold a promotion geared toward players of all bankrolls. Remember that in order to play, you need to opt in. When the bell tolls on February, the top 10 players on the leaderboard will qualify for a 10-man sit and go that will take place on PartyPoker on Wednesday, March 7th at 14:30 ET. So, if you're planning to partake in our promotion, make sure your schedule is open that day. The top finisher in the sit and go will bank $500, while second place will take home $300 and third place will collect $200. The fourth through tenth place players in the sit and go will pick up 50 PartyPoker Tournament Dollars. As an important side note, your PartyPoker account does not have to be tracked to PocketFives in order to enter. However, if you don't already have an account, you can support PocketFives and get a 100% up to $500 deposit bonus by signing up through our links. In addition, we'll ship you one free month of PocketFives Training with the sign-up fee waived, a $65 value. PocketFives Training offers some of the top MTT training in the industry and we'll let you test drive it for a month on our dime. Remember, only scheduled MTTs that meet our regular Poker Rankings criteria and have a buy-in of $11 or less count for this competition. So, if you play in the site's $215 weekly major, for example, your results won't count for the purposes of this promotion. The action ends at 23:59 GMT on February 29th. Note that 2012 is a leap year, so you'll get a whole extra day of grinding in as you vie for a slice of $1,000 in cash along with a total of 350 PartyPoker Tournament Dollars. If you change your PartyPoker user name for any reason, you'll need to opt back into the contest. If you have any questions about our February PLB competition or are having trouble entering your PartyPoker screen name into your profile, e-mail us at support@pocketfives.com and we'll be happy to help. While you're grinding away on PartyPoker in February, you can also take advantage of PartyPoker's Card Rush Instant Win promotion, which returns February 1st. The site will dish out 1.8 million cards this time around, with prizes that include Party Points, cash, freeroll entries, and Card Rush Race Points. Every card has some sort of prize associated with it and you can snag your first one by generating a scant five Party Points. All additional cards can be had for 15 Party Points. Sign up for PartyPoker today. If you don't already have an account, you can register through PocketFives and land a 100% up to $500 deposit bonus along with one month of PocketFives Training with the sign-up fee waived, a $65 value.

  16. If you're from the United States and have a hankering to play live poker, then you owe it to yourself to head to HogWild Poker, which launched a live staking promotion this week. Every month, HogWild Poker will award 15 players with a $500 staking package for the live poker tournament of their choice. By the way, if you're not familiar with HogWild Poker, it's a free, U.S.-legal site based in Kentucky. The staking promotion has been in the works for quite some time. In fact, PocketFives first learned about it before Thanksgiving. To take part, all you need to do is sign up for HogWild Poker and play in specified free games during the week. Only the results of your eight best games will be tracked, and you need to play in at least eight of them in order to receive a spot on the leaderboard. In order to get your hands on a $500 staking package, just finish in the top 15 on the leaderboard. You'll also get HogWild Poker gear to wear while you're at the casino. And as a bonus while you're trying to qualify, the tournaments on Sundays and Wednesdays carry a $200 prize pool. HogWild CEO Jeff Amrein commented in a press release sent out this week that he's looking forward to sending several dozen players to live events: "Players in our leagues love the fact that their game improves rapidly when they compete in our league format. Along the way, almost every player has a dream to be staked as a pro and we wanted to give many players that experience, rewarding them for their demonstrated skill over multiple games. Nearly 50 players will live that chance in the next three months thanks to this series." Anyone who scores a HogWild Poker live package can pick whatever event they want to enter. HogWild Poker officials will then take care of funding their buy-in. All HogWild asks in return is that players donate 10% of any winnings to Poker Gives, a charitable organization that helps poker players give back to society. Poker Hall of Fame members Mike Sexton and Linda Johnson were among those who founded Poker Gives. Besides the free games being held as part of the staking series, HogWild Poker is hosting events that have a buy-in of 5,000 Hog Bucks. If you've never played on HogWild before, you get 5,000 Hog Bucks when you create an account. You can buy and win more Hog Bucks should you need them, and you'll get 3,000 for every friend you refer to the still-nascent free room. The HogWild Poker player with the best 12 games between February 1st and May 31st will score a $13,000 World Series of Poker Main Event prize package. The "Big One" comes your way in early July from the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and when it kicks off, HogWild Poker will be represented. Anyone can start a private poker league on HogWild Poker, making the site quite unique. You can set your league's proprietary rules, customize its blind levels, and even determine the length and frequency of your games. HogWild Poker is in the midst of running a private league for PocketFives memberswhose fourth and final game takes place next Tuesday. The PocketFives league at HogWild Poker is completely free to enter and will shell out an iPad 2 to the winner. Finally, HogWild Poker facilitates prop bets between players, so you can challenge your friends to last-longers and best hands of the night. The same press release describes another unique in-game feature: "HogWild Poker has innovated a game function that actually makes the play much more like a live game - hole cards that are dealt down. When a player looks at his or her hand, their hole cards light up, allowing for plenty of speculation as to whether that is a signal of strength or weakness." If you sign up for HogWild Poker, make sure to come back to PocketFives and let the site's staff know what you think in their official support thread. Hog Wild is still growing and definitely values any constructive comments you have.

This contest typically takes place every month, although February's winner will walk away with an added bonus of a $1,000 Coral Poker sponsorship. Right now, the player in 100th place on the Coral Poker February VIP Points Race leaderboard has 535 points. The month is only a dozen days old, so you still have plenty of time to register for Coral Poker and take part. The second $1,000 bankroll will be awarded to the top cash game player on Coral Poker in February. So, if you don't feel like participating in a VIP Race, then cash games might be right up your alley. This part of the competition runs throughout the month of February and, for purposes of it, the "top cash game player" refers to the person who has the highest net profit in cash games. To be eligible, you must play at least 5,000 hands in February; all cash games are tracked. Interestingly enough, the cash game leaderboard's top player has a profit of $2,100 at the time of writing, but not all 50 spots on it are filled. In fact, only 16 players on the cash game leaderboard have actually turned a profit this month, so the leaderboard is definitely still wide open. The final $1,000 bankroll will be given to the top tournament player in February on Coral Poker. If cash games and VIP Races aren't your cup of tea, then test your skills in a tournament race. Coral Poker will dish out a $1,000 bankroll to the member who turns in the highest net profit in tournaments during February. To be eligible, you must play at least 50 tournaments during the month and all MTTs and sit and gos will count for this part of the promotion. Taking a look at the current tournament leaderboard, the top player has a profit of $330 at the time of writing, while 42 players are in the black. Just like the cash game leaderboard, this one is still wide open. If you create your Coral Poker account through our links, you'll either get a $25 bonus if you deposit $10 or you can opt for a more traditional $1,000 sign-up bonus. It's your call. Coral Poker recently launched four $500 new player freerolls and also has over $500 in weekly bonuses for you to take advantage of. The room is tracked for the PocketFives Rankings, so once you do sign up, make sure to add your Coral Poker user name to your profile to get credit for your scores. If you've never played daily fantasy sports before, you're not alone, but rest assured that the process is relatively simple. Every day, you can pick a brand new fantasy sports team. Instead of season-long leagues where a star player going down can break you for an entire year, in daily fantasy sports, you get to handpick a new team every day. Be sure to exploit match-ups, injuries, streaks, and more when selecting your team. To get started, sign up for FanDuel and make a deposit. Remember, fantasy sports received a carve-out from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, so you can use a major credit card or PayPal to put money onto the site safely and easily. Then, pick a contest on FanDuel to play. It offers free and real money games, although if you want to participate in PocketFives' $500 freebie, you'll need to make a deposit. You'll pick your players using a salary cap and must fill your entire roster without going over it. FanDuel is currently running NBA and NHL games, and if you've never played fantasy basketball or fantasy hockey before, a daily game is an affordable way to throw yourself into the fire. Your goal in daily fantasy sports is to score the most number of points possible; you'll be competing against other players in the same league. Text found on FanDuel explains another important difference between daily games and season-long games: "If your team racks up more points than your rivals on that day or weekend, you'll instantly take home the winnings. No waiting for the season to end - instant payouts!" Now that you've had a crash course on daily fantasy games, you should know that FanDuel offers a money-back guarantee. If you lose your first $5 or $10 game and don't like the site, you can contact its support staff and get a full, no-questions-asked refund. Besides offering an exclusive $500 freeroll for players tracked to PocketFives on March 9th, FanDuel is sending one of its members to the Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, the home of the annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The lucky fantasy sports junkie will travel to Atlantis from May 3rd to 7th and to qualify, you need to be one of the top 15 players on FanDuel in terms of money won between now and March 31st. The prize package includes four nights at Atlantis' Royal Towers and $2,400 in cash to use on airfare and spending money. The Atlantis is quite a pricey place, so the $2,400 will definitely come in handy. Get started by creating your FanDuel account through our links and making a deposit before the end of February. When you do, you'll punch your ticket to our exclusive $500 free fantasy basketball game on March 9th. If your FanDuel account is already tracked to PocketFives, then make a deposit and you'll qualify as well.
  19. In case you've missed the big banner ads at the top of PocketFives, we'd like to introduce Family Pot, a tool that helps connect online poker players. If you've won a major pot, made the money in a tournament, or simply have a few minutes to kill, you can hop on Family Pot and spread the word. Let's take a look at how it works. As a simple tutorial video posted on its website explains, "Family Pot allows you, while playing on any poker site, to follow your friends easily by getting automatic updates from them on their game progress with no need to chat, text, or talk. You can be followed easily in the same way." That's the essence of Family Pot in a nutshell. The main screen of Family Pot houses your Friends update box, poker news, and Tweets from pros. You can also view a list of your poker friends and Facebook friends, a feature that will help you stay up-to-date on the latest from the industry. You can choose from a fixed list of famous poker players and news sites to follow. The main screen also shows your Family Pot user name, status, and links to send messages to friends inside Family Pot and on Facebook and Twitter. Your Friends box (pictured above) is your avenue to see how your poker friends are doing. When you first sign up for Family Pot, there won't be any friends listed, but you can invite them through e-mail or Facebook. After they have joined Family Pot, you can add them to your friends list. When your friends play, you'll be able to get a notification about it and to see through the use of poker icons whether or not they're online. You can also view their game highlights, what sites they play on, what games they play, and a general update about how the games are going so far. They can also display their tournament situation with seven different poker icons that describe their chip counts You can fire up several online poker tables and use what's called "Mini" mode (pictured), in which the Family Pot informational window will appear vertically or horizontally next to your tables. That way, you can take a look at where your friends are playing and how's it going for them at the same time you play. This window can be moved around your computer screen with your mouse and can be narrowed or widened as needed. If you play on the browser games that not require downloading any software or if you play on Facebook apps, just download the "Mini" toolbar from the main page. Then, you can continue staying connected wherever you play. If you want to let your friends know how you're doing, you'll need to update your Family Pot status. There are several "Quick Update" buttons that allow you to specify what poker site you're playing on, what kind of game you're playing, whether you're doing well or poorly, the status of the tournament you're involved in, and your chip count. The "Mini" mode window also has these same options. You can also share multiple games if you're playing more than one table at a time If you want to talk with any of your Family Pot friends, especially while you play, there's a chat button. In the chat box, you can display the cards you had in the hand. There is also a group chat option for private groups. If you're going to be playing a poker session in the future or want to share your latest session, you can enter the details of it by clicking on the "Share More Games" button in your Family Pot profile. These sessions, as well as the sessions of your friends, will be compiled into a special calendar. Family Pot is completely free, so check it out today. And, if you do, please come back to PocketFives and let us know what you think.
  20. On Tuesday, April 24th, the final free PocketFives League game of April will take place on HogWild Poker. The free, league-based, USA-friendly site is generously adding a 32-inch HDTV* to the prize pool that will be awarded to the game's winner. Again, it's completely free to play and the winner of Tuesday's tournament walks away with a new television. You must sign up through PocketFives in order to participate in the game. Register here and remember that USA players are welcome. The game's champ will take home a 32" Westinghouse LED HDTV. It's ultra-slim to boot, which will make lugging it up a flight of stairs to your bedroom even easier, and it will be sent to U.S. customers from WalMart.com. You can elect to pick it up at your local WalMart store or it can be delivered to your home - you pick. Tuesday's tournament will serve as the fourth and final PocketFives League game of April. Last Tuesday, PocketFives member Craig rebelfdWilson came away with the win and now could score one of two PlayStation Vitas that will be given away to the first and second place finishers in April's league, which takes into account scores from all four weekly games. One poster from Georgia in the HogWild Poker PocketFives League Thread said he was looking forward to Tuesday's HDTV-added game: "Gonna be sweet to ship a TV, Vita, and HogBucks all in one tourney next week! I wish you all the most terrible run of cards ever seen. Also have enjoyed HWP for the most part... It has been really nice to play online with a shot at winning something. Terrible luck to you all next Tuesday!" Besides the television, there will be quite a bit on the line on Tuesday, April 24th in the final PocketFives HogWild Poker League game of the month. In fact, the top 10 league finishers will walk away with prizes including PocketFives Gear and HogBucks: 1st Place: PlayStation Vita WiFi 2nd Place: PlayStation Vita WiFi 3rd Place: PocketFives Gear + 25,000 HogBucks 4th Place: PocketFives Gear + 25,000 HogBucks 5th Place: PocketFives Gear + 25,000 HogBucks 6th Place: 25,000 HogBucks 7th Place: 25,000 HogBucks 8th Place: 25,000 HogBucks 9th Place: 25,000 HogBucks 10th Place: 25,000 HogBucks If you've never played on HogWild Poker before, HogBucksare the currency of choice and allow you to participate in side bets with friends, play on open tables, and enter bonus games as part of the HogWild Live Staking Series. Any time you peek at your cards, they light up, signaling to your opponents that you're looking. Prop bets like last-longers exist within the client and can be found by clicking on the blue "Prop Bets" button in the upper left of your game screen. The Best Hand of the Night and other superlatives are also in line for prizes and, overall, the quality of play on HogWild is superior to other free-play sites you'll find. 22. The inaugural PocketFives league at HogWild Poker, a free site that welcomes U.S. players, has wrapped up. Last week, photokid earned an iPad 2 after defeating nearly 200 players who registered for the free league. After winning the first league event, photokid finished third in the fourth and final tournament to land atop the leaderboard. Now, the top five league players will compete on behalf of PocketFives in a $500 Top Hog Freeroll. PocketFives caught up with Dylan SWrestle Rinker (pictured), who took down one of the four PocketFives HogWild Poker league events. He explained that the tournament's structure was quite unique: "It was an interesting structure because there weren't any antes and the blinds almost doubled each level. I ran J-J into K-K early and rivered a jack to stay alive. I played patiently, knowing that acquiring points is more important than being a hero." The overall winner of the league was the person who scored the most number of points over the course of four events. "Play stalled out four-handed for awhile, as no one really gave up any ground. Once photokid was knocked out in fourth, I felt much more comfortable and in my element. The opponent I ended up heads-up against was a very competent player, but passive, so I used that to my advantage and raised most buttons. I ended up getting it in with A-J against A-2 and faded. Overall, the field seemed strong and I didn't see any plays that seemed out of line. The level of play was high for what is technically a freeroll." HogWild Poker's software mimics live play. You're seated at the end of the table and your hole cards are dealt face down, among other novel features. Every time you look at your cards, they light up, so your opponents know when you're peeking. We asked Rinker about HogWild's software: "I have enjoyed playing on HWP very much. The staff and players are all very friendly and everyone is very talkative at the table. The software reminds me a lot of Facebook, and adds a lot more of a social element, as people congratulate each other through comments." His overall take: "It makes the game feel more personal and more like a home game." Anyone can create a free league on HogWild Poker. You'll be able to customize your tournaments' blinds, format, and game, among other options, and no deposits are accepted, which makes it USA-friendly. We asked Rinker how he got started in poker. "I started playing poker in middle school during the WSOP boom," the American told us. "We used to play at my friend's house every weekend, sit and gos usually. I didn't play at all through high school and it wasn't until my sophomore year of college that I started to get back into it. My roommate was playing on PokerStars at the time and I decided I would give it a try again." He explained that getting back into poker was easier said than done: "I didn't realize how much I didn't know about the game. I used to play every weekend, but I have spent a lot of time since then reading up on PocketFives and watching videos to better my game. I haven't played online too often since Black Friday. I play in a 200NL live game once a week and also enjoy going to Mohegan Sun once a month or so." HogWild Poker is in the midst of doling out live staking packageseach month for tournaments around the United States. The top 15 finishers each month in freerolls will score a $500 staking package, and the HogWild Poker player with the best 12 games between February 1st and May 31st will get a $13,000 World Series of Poker Main Event prize package. Read more. Here were the top five finishers in February's PocketFives HogWild Poker league. They will represent the site in the aforementioned $500 freeroll: 1. photokid 2. txlady 3. Annunaki 4. vicvegas007 5. MamaOnTheRiver Thanks to everyone who played. Sign up for HogWild Poker.

There's no charge for any league game and, this time around, we're playing for two PlayStation Vita WiFis, one each for the first place finisher and second place finisher. We're also dishing out 200,000 HogBucks as well as PocketFives gear to the top finishers. Sign up now. HogWild Poker hosted the inaugural PocketFives Leagueback in February and we had a couple hundred players turn out. We're happy to bring the league back every Tuesday night during April at 9:00pm ET - April 3rd,April 10th,April 17th,and April 24th. Where you finish in each game will determine your standing on an overall leaderboard that pays out as follows: 1st Place: PlayStation Vita WiFi 2nd Place: PlayStation Vita WiFi 3rd Place: PocketFives Gear + 25,000 HogBucks 4th Place: PocketFives Gear + 25,000 HogBucks 5th Place: PockeFives Gear + 25,000 HogBucks 6th Place: 25,000 HogBucks 7th Place: 25,000 HogBucks 8th Place: 25,000 HogBucks 9th Place: 25,000 HogBucks 10th Place: 25,000 HogBucks Once again, the league is open to U.S. players and there's no cost to enter any event. The title of inaugural PocketFives HogWild Poker League Champion went to photokid, who won one of the events and then took fourth in the final tournament to secure his title. This time around, we're spreading out the wealth in the form of two PlayStation Vita WiFis. If you've never played on HogWild Poker before, the software is modeled after live play. You're seated at the end of the table and your hole cards are dealt face down, just as they are in live poker. Whenever you look at your cards, they'll light up. Therefore, your opponents will know when you're peeking, which you could use to your advantage. HogWild Poker is Mac-compatible to boot. One PocketFives member posted in the Official HogWild Poker Support Thread that the Mac client was top-notch: "Just joined HWP and so far am impressed. I like the fact that no-shows are terminated, down cards are similar to live poker, and other nuances. But, you don't advertise that the site also supports the Mac with a native download version. I was really pleased with this version." Another U.S. PocketFives member gave his take on the free HogWild Poker league, which is legal in the United States since there's no buy-in: "Looking forward to playing more on HWP partly because I think real money poker online in the U.S. is just about over. I like many features, especially the card look thingy. I play live as often as possible and this feature absolutely adds a new tell for online poker play." Finally, we should point out that HogWild Poker is running a live staking seriesthat awards $500 in live event buy-ins to 15 players every month. To take part, just register for games in the HogWild Staking Series and then play in eight or more of them. HogWild will only count your top eight finishes and award $500 in live tournament buy-ins to the top 15 finishers. Every Sunday and Wednesday night qualifier takes the form of a $200 freeroll, so there's a little free money on the line as well. HogWild is also dishing out a prize package to the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event. Just play in the same aforementioned Staking Series freerolls between February 1st and May 31st. HogWild will keep track of your 12 best scores and award a WSOP Main Event prize package worth $13,000 to the top player on the leaderboard come June 1st. Sign up for HogWild Poker. U.S. players are welcome, and we'll see you in the PocketFives League every Tuesday in April starting on the 3rd.
