  1. New Article[caption width="640"] Samuel '€urop€an' Vosden won his first WCOOP title on Wednesday. (PokerStars photo / Neil Stoddart)[/caption] You know you've got the respect of other players at the final table when chop discussions start and you end up with an opportunity to walk away with more than first place was supposed to pay. That's exactly what happened to Finland's Samuel '€urop€an' Vosden late Wednesday night as he went on to win his first World Championship of Online Poker title in the Special Edition Super Tuesday, earning $297,250 in the process. First place was scheduled to pay $292,182.25 While Vousden had earned an extra $5,000, third place finisher 'reno8' earned $176,000 and runner-up 'Xingsmaster' walked away $189,885.05. 'Vousden now has a WCOOP title to go along with the Spring Championship of Online Poker title he won in 2015. Another Finnish player almost walked away with WCOOP title of his own on Wednesday but a Russian phenom wanted no part of that storyline. 'aDrENalin710' beat Finland's Jani 'kiiski' Vilmunen heads-up to win the Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Championship event for $63,780.33. This is the fifth COOP title for 'aDrENalin710' and his first since winning a WCOOP title last September. The final table includedFabrizio 'SixthSenSe19' Gonzalez, Dani Stern and former #1-ranked Joao Mathias Baumgarten. The third and final WCOOP event to wrap up Wednesday saw 'Maxim737' outlast 1,265 other players to win $19,828.03 and his first WCOOP title in the 215 Six Max Pot Limit Omaha Progressive KO event. 2. Steve 'BetrThanPhil' Tripp took the headlines on Day 3 of the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker after grinding his way to victory in Event #8 (High) for a score of $100,343. After 12 more events came to their conclusion on Tuesday, Tripp claimed his first SCOOP title after defeating "0PIGGYBANK" heads-up, with the latter taking away $86,213 after a deal between the two players had been agreed. It was Tripp's second largest recorded online cash after he won $193,804 for taking down FTOPS Event #9 back in 2010. Alex 'lynskey99' Lynskey came through an 8,562 player field in Event #8 (Medium) and claimed the first-place prize of $60,073. 'Kobasteris' was the player to lose the heads-up battle and took away $42,472 in second place. The biggest field of the day came in Event #8 (Low) after 27,101 players paid the $11 tournament entry fee and created a $265,589.80 prize pool, with Marcos 'Marcos Epa' Epaminondas taking the majority share. The Brazilian's prize for outlasting the enormous field was $13,172, the honour of a SCOOP title to his name and his largest recorded online cash to date. In Event #7 (High), 'aDrENalin710' beat out 120 opponents to win a score of $27,202, with 'BelovCaXa' banking $12,246 after securing victory in Event #7 (Medium). Russia's 'Iwantbearich' narrowly missed out on adding a SCOOP title to their previously won PokerStars MicroMillions gold medal after losing a heads-up battle to 'kagor82' in Event #7 (Low). The victor bagged a score of $4,841 with the Russian having to settle for a second-place prize of $3,371. Day 3 saw the first HORSE events of this year's series played out with 'CMoosepower' beating Luke 'lb6121' Schwartz to the title in Event #9 (High). Schwartz already has five SCOOP titles to his name, but the Brit was unable to attain his sixth on this occasion and had to settle for the runners-up prize of $24,800, with 'CMoosepower' earning $34,800 for the win. Event #9 (Medium) saw Russia's 'Zapahzamazki' record their second largest online cash after they came through an 823 field to take the title for $15,431. Thomas 'sandman201' Taylor was able to cash in all three of the HORSE events, which included victory in Event #9 (Low) for $5,625, and a near-final table miss in the 'High' after he exited in 10th place. Event #12 saw three Six Max 'Win the Button' PKO No Limit Hold'em tournaments played out with 'corsei', '88pro88' and 'alberto.m7' taking the titles. $4,381 was added to the bankroll of Romania's 'corsei' courtesy of their win in Event #12 (Low), The UK's Tommy '88pro88' Lawrence followed up on his impressive Sunday Million victory last month by taking down Event #12 (Medium) for $27,700, and last but certainly not least, 'alberto.m7' took the win in Event #12 (high) for $56,828 after seeing off the Brits Jonathan 'proudflop' Proudfoot and Conor '1_conor_b_1' Beresford into second and third place respecitivelty. 3. One day after 'nilsef' won his second WCOOP title of the year, Russian Denis 'aDrENalin710' Strebkov decided to join the double-win club by taking down Event #11 High ($2,100 Razz) for nearly $50,000. Strebkov, who won his first 2018 WCOOP title on Monday in Event #5 Medium ($109 Six Max Pot Limit Omaha), beat out 'sergiobraga1' heads-up for this title and $49,595. 'sergiobraga1' took home $33,670. Christian 'CMoosepower' Elgstrøm finished third for $25,480. The biggest winner of the day was Rachid Ben 'SkaiWalkurrr' Cherif, who outdueled a final table that included former #1-ranked players 'girafganger7' and 'veeea' as well as 'bencb789'. 4. There was very little fanfare when Denis 'aDrENalin710' Strebkov topped a 482-player field in Event #5 (Medium) on the second day of the 2018 World Championship of Online Poker. The 28-year-old Moscow resident was one of 15 winners on that day. Over the course of the two weeks that followed, however, Strebkov forced people to stand up and take notice as they heard his name over and over and over and over again on his way to a record-setting five WCOOP titles and a solid hold on the top spot on the WCOOP Overall Leaderboard. As the wins began piling up, Strebkov knew he had a chance at winning the Overall Leaderboard and began playing more and more events. "I tried to play my usual schedule, but when I won those first two, I started playing everything for leaderboard points," said Strebkov. "It's nice to win so many tournaments in a short span. I was very excited." The five wins were an impressive feat but Strebkov says it was a tournament that he didn't win that proved to be the most difficult. "The hardest one was in HORSE when I finished second behind 'Ravenswood13'. That final table also had Shaun Deeb, Andrey Zaichenko and Viktor Blom," said Strebkov. "The Eight Game event that I won was difficult too, I was short stacked the whole time it felt like." Of his five victories, none came in No Limit Hold'em. While a high percentage of players his age got their start playing No Limit, Strebkov had a more unusual path. "I didn't play a lot of No Limit when I started to play poker. I played Omaha Hi-Lo sit-n-gos and some Razz cash games," said Strebkov, who started playing micro stakes in 2008 while a studying Nanoelectronics at a university in Taganrog, Russia. "I don't know why I'm just better in Limit games than in No Limit. For me, it's easier." While No Limit Hold'em might not be his area of expertise, he's got a few months to work on it. Winning the overall WCOOP leaderboard came with a $30,000 Platinum Pass that includes the $25,000 buy-in to the PokerStars Players Championship at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January. "I'm learning Hold'em, but still have some things I need to improve on. Let's see how I do in the Bahamas," said Strebkov, who has played a few European Poker Tour events and other, smaller live events scattered throughout Europe. His WCOOP success not only added those five wins to his resume, that now includes an all-time record nine WCOOP titles, but it also came with a substantial boost to his bankroll. He's planning on expanding his schedule online and potentially increasing the stakes he plays. "I'll continue playing online, maybe a bit higher limits. That's a good boost for my bankroll," said Strebkov, who says there's a 70% chance he travels to Las Vegas next summer for the World Series of Poker. "I have a health problem. It's not serious, but it shouldn't stop me from going to the WSOP." Strebkov counts another Russian mix game specialist as one of his closest friends in poker. Eight years ago, Strebkov reached out to Andrey ‘Gigaloff’ Zhigalov on Skype to talk poker and learn from him. Three years later the two met face-to-face for the first time and now the pair regularly talks strategy. Aside from his recent success, Strebkov says he's just a regular guy. "I like to smoke hookah with my friends and play FIFA and other PlayStation games as well as some board games. I also enjoy listening to music and watching movies like everybody else," said Strebkov.
  5. Anybody who has followed the career of Shaun Deeb knows he's racked up more than his fair share of World Championship of Online Poker titles, going so far as to win one on the day his son was born. On Saturday, he gave his now three-year-old son Chance an early birthday present by winning the exact same event he won three years ago for the seventh WCOOP title of his career. Deeb beat 2018 WCOOP Overall Leaderboard champ Denis ‘aDrENalin710’ Strebkov to win Event #9 High ($1,050 NL Five-Card Draw PKO) for $10,500 plus and additional $14,875 in bounties. Strebkov had to settle for $7,000 as well as $2,937.50 in bounties. Saturday's biggest winner was 'I’mYourTeddy'. The German grinder banked $95,756.97 after chopping Event #4 High ($530 No Limit Hold'em) with 'TheDegenFund'. The pair outlasted 1,398 other entries before coming to an agreement on splitting up the remaining prize money. 'TheDegenFund' ended up with $89,148.87 as his share of the deal. Third-place finisher 'Kovalski' added $55,546.40 to his bankroll. Alan 'Mr Negreanu' Gold beat Ari 'BodogAri' Engel heads up in Event #5 Medium ($109 HORSE) to win $13,518.75 and capture the first WCOOP title of his career.
