Over the last 12 months, Jake Schindler has proven to be a legitimate threat in high roller tournaments around the world. He finished runner-up in the 2017 Super High Roller Bowl, runner-up in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open High Roller, third in a Poker Masters $50,000 event, runner-up in the US Poker Open Main Event. In March, he picked up two wins in Aria High Rollers, but on Wednesday in Barcelona he posted what could be considered a breakthrough win. Schindler beat Stephen Chidwick heads-up and overcame a final table that included Erik Seidel, Jason Koon and Bryn Kenney to win the partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller for €1,750,000 ($2,163,174 US), the second biggest score of his career. The day began with 11 players still in contention for the €1.75 million first place prize but Koray Aldemir, Dominik Nitsche, Mikita Badziakouski, Steffen Sontheimer all failed to make the money, and once Keith Tilston went out in seventh, the remaining six players were all in the money. The first player to bust was Seidel. Down to less than five big blinds, Seidel three-bet all in over Kenney's UTG raise. Kenney called and showed [poker card="as"][poker card="tc"] which put him ahead of Seidel's tabled [poker card="ac"][poker card="5c"]. The [poker card="7c"][poker card="3h"][poker card="2h"] gave Seidel more outs but the [poker card="td"] turn and [poker card="ah"] river were no help and he was left with a sixth place finish. Despite picking up the first in-the-money elimination, things went south from that point on for Kenney. Kenney was on the button and raised to 350,000 and Schindler called from the big blind and then checked after the [poker card="th"][poker card="6c"][poker card="5d"] flop. Kenney bet 305,000 and Schindler raised to 1,200,000. Kenney moved all in for 4,410,000 total and Schindler called. Kenney showed [poker card="8c"][poker card="7s"] for an open-ended straight draw while Schindler showed [poker card="6d"][poker card="6h"] for middle set. The [poker card="ac"] turn was a blank and Schindler improved to quads with the [poker card="6s"] river to bust Kenney in fifth. A little over an hour later two more players were sent packing in quick succession by Chidwick. From the button, Chidwick raised to 400,000 and Koon moved all in from the small blind for 5,975,000. Chidwick called and turned up [poker card="6c"][poker card="6h"] while Koon showed [poker card="3d"][poker card="3h"]. The board ran out [poker card="kd"][poker card="jd"][poker card="th"][poker card="js"][poker card="7c"] to eliminate Koon. Left with just three big blinds, Jean-Noel Thorel moved all in for 600,000 from the button and Chidwick and Schindler called from the small and big blind respectively. The [poker card="ts"][poker card="6s"][poker card="2h"] flop saw both remaining players check. The [poker card="5h"] turn got Chidwick to be enough for Schindler to fold. Chidwick showed [poker card="kh"][poker card="th"] for top pair with the second nut flush draw. Thorel needed help with the [poker card="qd"][poker card="8c"] but got none after the [poker card="9h"] river to go home in third. Heads up play began with Schindler holding just 54% of the chips in play. The two players traded the led back and forth for almost three hours before Schindler was able to finish Chidwick off. On the final hand, Schindler raised to 875,000 and Chidwick called. The flop came [poker card="ad"][poker card="4s"][poker card="2s"], Chidwick checked, Schindler bet 500,000 and Chidwick called. The turn was the [poker card="5c"] and Chidwick checked again, Schindler bet 1,800,000 but Chidwick raised to 5,100,000. Schindler called and both players saw the [poker card="7s"] river. Chidwick moved all in and Schindler called. Schindler showed [poker card="qs"][poker card="6h"] for a bluff while Schindler showed [poker card="as"][poker card="3h"] for a wheel and the final pot of the night. Final Table Payouts Jake Schindler - €1,750,000 Stephen Chidwick - €1,100,000 Jean-Noel Thorel - €726,000 Jason Koon - €500,000 Bryn Kenney - €340,000 Erik Seidel - €240,000
The partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona gets underway on April 7 and is highlighted by a mammoth €10,000,000 Main Event. The tournament is billed as the largest guaranteed tournament in Europe’s history and no fewer than three players will walk away from the contest having won at least €1,000,000. In order to pull off such an ambitious feat, partypoker is going to need plenty of players to qualify for the event through both the live satellites happening in Barcelona as well as through their ample opportunities online. The Main Event For the final event of Season One of partypoker LIVE, the company has pushed the envelope once again - essentially doubling their efforts from many of the Main Events they've held thus far. As opposed to a €5 million guarantee at a €5,000 buy-in, as they held recently in Rozvadov, the stakes are raised with a €10,300 buy-in and €10,000,000 as a guarantee. There are four starting flights, beginning on April 11, that allow for a single re-entry per flight. Players with a healthy bankroll can play multiple flights and the largest chip stack for that player will move forward into Day 2. Even though this is clearly a major tournament, the action will be swift with Day 1 levels of 40 minutes and a starting stack of 100bb and an ante right off the bat. Day 2 sees levels increase to 60 minutes and should you get to the end, heads-up play escalates with 30-minute levels. Taking place at the Casino Barcelona, right next to the Barceloneta beach, partypoker has made every effort to create a tournament that would be worth winning a seat for. Step Up To €10,000,000 Players have a path to the €10,300 buy-in starting for as little as $0.50 when qualifying online. partypoker has provided a small twist to the standard satellite steps players may be accustomed to. Certainly, players can buy their way into any of the four levels of satellites in hopes to either win their way to the next step or win a seat outright. But as an extra bonus, some of the steps allow players to work up a stack that carries over into the next step. The first step is a $0.50 tournament, which runs daily. This feeds into a $22 buy-in satellite. You can either win the first stage or buy directly into the $22 at any time. Players in the daily $22 tournament need to both survive to the end as well as have the opportunity build a stack to carry with them into one of the daily $109 tournament. Once in the $109 tournament, the same principle applies - players build a stack to take with them to the final $1,050 tournament that will take them to the MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona. Again, players can buy into any stage at any time, but those who climb the steps may have an added advantage of being able to build a massive stack to take with them into the Sunday Final. The $1,050 tournament runs on Sundays at 8pm GMT/ 4pm ET and guarantees at least 10 packages to the Main Event. Each package is worth $16,000 and gives the winner a €10,300 ticket to the Main Event, 8-night accommodation at the Hotel Arts for the duration of the Grand Final (April 8-16) and an additional $500 for expenses. partypoker is also running pure (non-package) satellites for seats online where players can buy or win their way into a $1,050 tournament that awards a guaranteed 10 seats to the Main Event. Players can jump in $0.50, $22 and $109 satellites every day and build a stack to take with them to the Sunday Final, which takes place every Sunday through the beginning of the event. You can get a free $22 tournament ticket just by signing up for a Mypartypokerlive.com account. This will give you access to exclusive coverage of all partypoker LIVE events and could send you on your way to winning a partypoker MILLIONS title.
On April 7, the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Season One Grand Final gets underway. Taking place near the beautiful beaches in Barcelona, Spain - at the Casino Barcelona - the Main Event boasts an ambitious €10 million guarantee where no fewer than three players will become a millionaire, practically overnight. One of those who will be taking a seat at the table will be World Series of Poker bracelet winner, World Poker Tour champion and, as it turns out, partypoker online qualifier Mike Leah. Well-known as one of the most dedicated tournament players in the world, Leah efforts to make his way into any tournament with an enticing prize pool. For Leah, the partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona was a no-brainer. “I won a package online. I would have definitely gone anyway but it’s always nice to win a package, save some money and get the hotel and stuff taken care of. It makes the trip easier to plan…and cheaper,” Leah said. He’s not alone as partypoker has been helping players qualify for their Main Event for weeks now and will do so right up until the start of the Main Event. Of course, it’s in the online site’s best interest to pack the field with satellite winners as they need 1,000 runners just to cover the hefty guarantee. “I really like how they have things set up with the different Phases,” Leah says, talking about his path to winning his ticket. “It makes it easy for anyone to try and qualify no matter what your bankroll is. You can start down in the pennies and the dollars or you can start higher, like in the $109’s. Or, you can direct buy into the $1,000 satellite.” This is a good thing, for everyone. Players who may not normally get a shot to play in such a prestigious tournament can take their shots without having to break the bank. “The Phases work great because it gets people from all different buy-ins playing the satellites, which keeps them on the softer side,” Leah said. “They’ve been filling up well, too.” In fact, partypoker has been giving away at least ten packages every week this month. One such satellite gave away in excess of 20 seats. “When satellites fill up that well it, of course, makes it easier for people to win packages but it also means that there are just so many players from all different feeders and different level phases which is great. I think they’ve done a really good job.” Leah’s won at least one seat into the Main Event, but the tournament has four starting flights - allowing players who enter multiple times to carry their largest stack forward. Should things not go his way on the first day, Leah’s acknowledges that the value the tournament brings will be too good not to fire again. “I’ll fire one, two, three more if needed. I definitely won’t be sitting and watching other people play for all the money.” And there’s plenty of money to be won in Barcelona. While the Main Event carries that €10 million guarantee there’s a total of over 23 million guaranteed over the course of nine events, including a €1,000 €1 million guarantee and a healthy slate of high rollers. Leah’s not yet decided which of the nine events he’ll be registering for but he acknowledges that, for a player like himself, the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS in Barcelona is likely to keep him in action. “Another great thing they do is they have buy-ins for all different levels. For someone in my exact scenario, where I can play the €25,000’s but I’m also happy playing a really big €1,000 it’s a really tough decision.” Whatever he decides, he’s going to be extra pumped to mix it up as he’s in the middle of taking a full month off after a heavy travel schedule for the first two months of 2018. His year so far has included a trip to Rozvadov for the partypoker MILLIONS Germany and, of course, his much-publicized victory in the WPT Fallsview Main Event. But a tournament like this, he just can’t skip. While in his mind, it’s not quite the same as a WSOP bracelet just yet, the player-first changes over at partypoker have been making a distinct difference to the tournament pro. “[partypoker LIVE MILLIONS] are definitely becoming more important. With million-dollar winners for all the Main Events that makes them about as meaningful as can be. There are not that many tournaments where you can win a million bucks. I think the Main Event fields, all of the ones I’ve been to, have been really really good. I expect this one to be just as good.” Having only been to Barcelona once before, Leah is looking forward to getting a second shot at experiencing Spain's capital. “It’s a beautiful city from what I remember and I look forward to checking it out even more and maybe catching some beach time. The weather should be a lot nicer than Canada.” Including catching some time at the beach, he’s hoping that it will be in Barcelona that he catches a cash that put him over $7 million in lifetime earnings, something he’s less than $10,000 away from achieving. “How about I just try to get right to $8 million,” Leah joked. If he’s in the top three of MILLIONS Barcelona, he’ll do just that. The award-winning partypoker LIVE MILLIONS wraps up its inaugural season next month with the MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona. For nine days, beginning on April 7, the partypoker LIVE tour sets up shop at Casino Barcelona for nine action-packed events headlined by the €10,300 Main Event that carries a €10,000,000 guarantee. €23,000,000 Up For Grabs The MILLIONS Grand Final is one of the most ambitious stops of partypoker LIVE’s first season. Over the course of nine events, players will vie for a piece of the €23,000,000 (~$28,500,000 US) in guarantees. There are four Super High Rollers on the schedule including two €25,000, a €50,000 and the €100,000 Super High Roller - each of which is guaranteed for €2 million. For those players who want in on the action, but at a more manageable buy-in, the slate includes a pair of €1,000 tournaments, each holding their own €1 million guarantee. €10 Million Main Event Not to be missed though is the Main Event. Billed as Europe’s largest ever guaranteed tournament, the €10,000 buy-in carries with it a massive €10 million guarantee. Also promised, the top three finishers in the tournament will all walk away with at least €1,000,000 in earnings. In order to hit that lofty guarantee, the tournament will have to have no fewer than 1,000 runners either buy-in or qualify for the event. To that end, the tour is doing all they can to give players a path to taking their seat. There are four starting flights for the tournaments. Day 1A and Day 1B both take place on April 11 with the next two flights taking place the following day. Should a player go bust, they can re-enter once per flight as well as play multiple starting days with the largest stack earned moving forward. partypoker has also provided plenty of opportunities for players to win their way into the Main Event as there are five mega satellites that will take place at Casino Barcelona leading up to the Main Event. Additionally, players can qualify online for the live event. The structure of the event is similar to the Main Event of MILLIONS Germany with 40-minute levels on Day 1 and 1,000,000 in starting chips. Players can’t rest too comfortably though as the blinds start at a hefty 5k/10k with a 5k ante ensuring that even with 1 million in chips, the action will move quickly from the start of the first level. From Day 2 forward the structure slows down, offering 60 minute levels all the way until the beginning of heads-up play when the levels regress to 30 minutes. How to Follow The Action From daily live updates to the final table live stream, Mypartypokerlive.com will cover the event from start to finish. Sign-up for a Mypartypokerlive.com account to be able to follow the action and you'll also get a free $22 tournament ticket into your partypoker account. Forcing The Hand of History Throughout the entire first season of the partypoker LIVE tour, the company has been promoting their events through ambitious guarantees. While everyone will remember Viktor Blom’s courageous call to seal the victory of the MILLIONS Germany Main Event, from a business side - the €5 million guarantee was missed by roughly €150,000. That’s not a massive misstep by any means, but backing that up with a tournament that doubles both the guarantee and the buy-in is not exactly playing it safe. But partypoker has announced that they aren’t looking to “play it safe.” partypoker’s new ALL-IN campaign, which features new software, a new robust online tournament schedule and the end of the year $20,000,000 guaranteed MILLIONS online tournament, could really be bolstered should the company find a way to crush the MILLION Grand Final Main Event guarantee. Helping them no doubt will be their ever-expanding stable of pros including Patrick 'pleno1' Leonard, Isaac Haxton, Jason Koon, Joao 'joaosimaobh' Simao, Kristen Bicknell, Sam Trickett and Fedor Holz, many of whom will likely be on hand to help welcome players and battle them on the felt. The Big Game Once again, partypoker is also bringing their high stakes cash game, The Big Game, with them to Barcelona. In addition to the 24/7 cash offerings of the casino, the tour will feature a streaming high stakes cash game featuring some of the games biggest names. All of the action begins on April 7 with the €1,000 Opening Event with a €1,000,000 guarantee and wraps up nine days later on April 15 with the conclusion of the Main Event.
