  1. [caption width="640"] 888poker.com's New Jersey Poker Classic Series starts on November 10[/caption] 888poker.com is making waves in the New Jersey market with the upcoming New Jersey Poker Classic Series. The online festival runs from November 10-20 and features 38 events with $500,000 in guaranteed prize pools. Recent numbers in the PokerStarsNJ NJCOOP series and partypokerNJ Garden State Super Series suggest the state has a market that can support multiple major events and 888poker.com is putting that to the test this month. The largest guarantee on the schedule is the $500 buy-in $100,000 guaranteed Main Event. 888poker.com has put a Championship Beltup for grabs to the winner of the event. Also on the schedule is a $1,000 Six-Max event with a $50,000 guarantee. This tournament runs on November 14 and should feature some of New Jersey’s best battling at the final table. As is expected, the Sunday schedule is jam-packed with major events and large prize pool warranties. The Sunday Biggy on November 12 is just that event with a $320 buy-in putting a $65,000 minimum prize pool to battle over in Event 7. Also on November 12 is Event 8, a $4,500 guaranteed Six-Max featuring a small buy-in of $20. This event is likely to attract one of the largest fields in the New Jersey Poker Classic Series. The majority of the NJPCS schedule is comprised of No Limit Hold’em events. The exception to the rule is Event 10 and 21, which are Pot Limit Omaha tournaments. Event 10 is a $100 8-Max $8,000 guarantee. Event 21 is a $50 buy-in with an add-on option and rebuy availability. Satellites are currently running for all events on the schedule, with freeroll qualifiers in play every day of the series. At least five seats are awarded each day to an event running the following day. In total, over $8,000 in freeroll seats are being given away through the freerolls. The freeroll satellites run through November 19 and start at 6:00 pm ET. 2. New Jersey completed its fourth full year of regulated online play last week. Tournaments have played a major role in having the state be formally recognized for the poker talent living within the borders. Scott Blumstein winning the WSOP Main Event certainly helped. The grinders who make up the online rankings did their part as well. With the calendar officially turned, Michael ‘Gags30’ Gagliano starts 2018 as the #1 player in the New Jersey Online Rankings. Gagliano played a selective schedule in December with seven cashes to his name. The best of the group came in the 888poker NJ $15,000 guaranteed Tuesday Showdown where Gagliano placed second for $4,932 on December 13. 2017 proved to be a good one for Gagliano, who made two WSOP final tables and boosted his career online tournament earnings to over $3 million. Staying at #2 for another month is Yong ‘ykwon17’ Kwon. The artist also known as ‘LuckySpewy’ won seven MTTs in December. During the PokerStarsNJ Half Price Sunday on December 3, Kwon won the $250 Sunday High Roller for $7,754. Taking his place as the last member on the podium is David ‘dehhhhh’ Coleman. The 24-year-old spent most of 2017 among the top echelon of New Jersey online players and opens 2018 in the same position. Coleman is $120,000 away from cracking the $1 million mark. Should he put up a few strong months, he will likely hit that target in the first half of the year. Batting cleanup is Daniel ‘centrfieldr’ Lupo. In the past year, Lupo remained in the top 10 for nearly the entire campaign. Lupo surpassed $1 million in lifetime online earnings in October and is less than $60,000 from breaking that barrier on New Jersey sites. In the fifth position, Jeremy ‘Jermz’ Danger resides. The all-time leader in career New Jersey online winnings is over the $1.5 million landmark as 2018 starts. In December, Danger racked up five victories to pad his total. John ‘Selurznug’ Cosgrove ends his breakout year in sixth place. The New Jersey teacher finished his 2017 by winning 10 tournaments. Three of his gold medals came in the PokerStarsNJ Midnight Express Hyper. Another familiar screen name is in the top 10 with Michael ‘JohnnnyDrama’ Haberman. Who climbs one spot to #7. Haberman earned himself some holiday cash by winning the 888poker NJ $20,000 guaranteed Ultimate Warrior on Christmas Day. The triumph booked Haberman $6,060. Fred ‘BigDaddy’ Ferrell moves down a notch to #8 and Andrew ‘Mergulas’ Glauberg remains at #9. Only 20 points separate the two players, who finished in the winner’s circle a combined 16 times in December. Glauberg won back-to-back Super Tuesdays on PokerStarsNJ between December 12 and 19, earning $6,000 and $6,151, respectively. Back in the rankings after a month away is Mike ‘Lav519’ Lavenburg, who closed this year in a big way. Lavenburg defeated the partypokerNJ Sunday $40,000 guaranteed field of 118 for a Christmas bonus worth $6,570. Then, on December 27, Lavenburg shipped the 888poker NJ $500 Tuesday Showdown for $6,739 more. The Borgata Winter Poker Open starts in the middle of this month and it will be interesting to see how the live game changes the look of the rankings by February. 3. Michael ‘Gags30’ Gagliano’s run as #1 in New Jersey’s Online Poker Rankings continues for another month. Gagliano put together a February that included five major wins. The rest of the New Jersey podium fell in the line behind Gagliano and the middle of the pack went through a jumble. The largest of Gagliano’s wins came in the 888NJ New Jersey Poker Championship $80,000 guaranteed Sunday Spectacular. The $350 buy-in MTT attracted 141 runners. Gagliano came out on top to win the $22,249 first-place prize. Rounding out the podium in the event were PocketFivers ‘sri100k’ and Angel ‘ChromeKing’ Lopez. Gagliano also notched wins in the February 18 PokerStarsNJ Sunday High Roller and the NJPC $25,000 guaranteed Big 500. Back in the second-place position is Yong ‘ykwon17’ Kwon. The former NJ #1 put together a month that included four wins. Kwon also finished second in the February 18 Sunday High Roller won by Gagliano. David ‘dehhhhh’ Coleman resides in third place for the third consecutive poll. As of press time, Coleman is less than $5,000 from eclipsing $1 million in earnings in New Jersey. Coleman will be the fifth player to hit that mark joining Kwon, Jeremy ‘Jermz’ Danger, Michael ‘JohnnnyDrama’ Haberman, and Fred ‘biggdaddy’ Ferrell. From completely out of the rankings sphere and now all the way up to #4 is Mike ‘lav519’ Lavenburg. Nightly tournaments are where Lavenburg did his damage in February. Lavenburg won two partypokerNJ $10,000 guaranteed tournaments and one on PokerStarsNJ. The wins combined to earn Lavenburg a shade over $9,000. Daniel ‘centrfieldr’ Lupo added four more wins to his portfolio. Lupo is off to a great start in the PokerStarsNJ Turbo Series win two victories. The $200 Hyper Turbo 8-Max gold medal earned Lupo $4,661. Up from #8 to #6 is Andrew ‘Mergulas’ Glauberg. February proved to be busy for Glauberg, who strung up nine podium finishes and three wins. The NJPC ‘Play Your Way’ $25,000 guaranteed win booked Glauberg a smooth $8,000. Danger dropped from #5 to #7 but still managed to collect two wins. The last Sunday of February brought a major score to Danger. ‘PokerJermz’ shipped the Sunday $40,000 guaranteed on partypokerNJ for $9,160. Seven wins encompassed John ‘Selurznug’ Cosgrove’s month. Cosgrove won two NJPC events and earned a combined a $7,000 for his efforts. Ryan ‘shipthesherb’ Hohner is into the top-10 for the first time in a few months. The Borgata Winter Poker Open Event #1 runner-up picked up three wins and earned seven additional top-three finishes. The best of these results was a runner-up in the February 18 Sunday Special where Hohner claimed $7,087. The 10th spot belongs to Michael ‘JohnnnyDrama’ Haberman. The fifth member of the $1 million club crossed the seven-figure mark at the start of the month. Haberman continued his consistency with four wins in February. 4. The partypoker LIVE MILLIONS series hits its North American stop in Montreal in late April for a CAD $10 million guaranteed event. The buy-in for the event is CAD $5,300 but New Jersey online player Dan 'dazedace' DiZenzo is playing for one-tenth of that amount. DiZenzo earned his seat via satellite on partpokerNJ and is one of close to three dozen players from New Jersey to earn a qualifying seat. Familiar With The Territory The traveling pro has cashes in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Nevada so far in 2018 and could not miss a chance to win a seat to one of the largest events in the world. Between October, the month when he won the PokerStarsNJ NJCOOP Main Event, and his satellite seat finish, DiZenzo had not recorded an online cash, according to PocketFives. Sometimes it can take players a couple tries to win a satellite seat but DiZenzo claimed his on the first try. DiZenzo says he ran well during the middle stages of the tournament and “cruised” to the final table. DiZenzo has been a part of the New Jersey online ecosystem since play opened in 2013. A veteran of his experience recognizes the impact qualifiers can have on growing a player pool and looks forward to future offerings. “Having qualifiers, in general, is always a good thing for bigger buy-in MTTs,” DiZenzo said. “We all play MTTs to have that one massive score and satellites offer that experience for all players. Having these satellites in New Jersey is super convenient for us, and shows that people are willing to play if they simply offer them to us.” Second Chance On The Way? A massive score like the one DiZenzo speaks of almost happened for him in November of last year. DiZenzo took eighth place in a field of 1,061 at the partypoker Caribbean Poker Party Main Event in Punta Cana won by Sam Greenwood for $1 million. The $70,000 score for DiZenzo might have been more were it not for pocket kings getting cracked right before the final table. The cash was the fifth-largest in a career that includes almost $2 million in combined live and online earnings. Although he fell short in a painful fashion of a life-altering win, DiZenzo had a positive enough experience with the partypoker brand to be hyped for the upcoming Montreal event at the Playground Poker Club. “I am pretty excited. Punta Cana was my first partypoker MILLIONS event and I was impressed with how everything was run there. My expectations for the event in Canada is that it will be just as good if not better, given the hype around the $10 million guaranteed.” DiZenzo logs his share of miles every year but this is the first time he is traveling beyond the wall to play in Montreal. An avid foodie as well as a poker player, DiZenzo looks forward to all that the city has to offer. “I have talked to all my friends who have played there in the past, and they all seem to tell me it is one of the best rooms to play in,” DiZenzo noted. “I haven't really looked too much into the city and what they have to offer outside of poker, but I have heard good things about the restaurants in Montreal.” More Online in the Future MILLIONS North America marks one of the final events for DiZenzo before he makes the annual trek for a summer in Las Vegas. In that time, it is possible that the online pipeline between New Jersey, Nevada, Delaware, and possibly Pennsylvania will officially open. Is that pipeline enough for DiZenzo to cut back on his travel and play more online? He’s weighing the options. “I am looking forward to when more states start combining liquidity and growing the player fields and prize pools. I would definitely play more than I have been playing once the player pools start to grow with new states coming on board.”
  5. Another month of an incomplete roster of New Jersey grinders ended the same way June did. Daniel 'centrfieldr' Lupo tops the charts for another month (4.275.97 PLB points) and is the only player in the state over the 4,000 point benchmark. Lupo achieved five wins in July topped off by a $12,950 result on PokerStarsNJ. The NJ Summer Series $1,000 High Roller on July 24 attracted 36 of the state's best and Lupo emerged victoriously by beating competitors Michael 'JohnnnyDrama' Haberman and Michael 'Gags30' Gagliano on the tournament podium. Overall, Lupo earned 12 top-3 finishes and his career online earnings are up to $1.765 million. David 'dehhhhh' Coleman jumped over Gagliano to take second place for this month. Coleman was in Las Vegas for a week at the start of July and overcame the lack of volume to achieve 12 medals and three golds. The last Sunday of the month proved to be a profitable one. Coleman took third place in the PokerStarsNJ $10,000 GTD High Roller and the NJ Summer Series Main Event to top $12,700 in gross earnings. He wasn't done there. The partypokerNJ $40,000 GTD ended with Coleman in the winner's circle to collect the $7,455 first-place prize. Gagliano fell a spot in the rankings but still had himself a productive month. In only a week of play, Gagliano won the NJ Summer Series $25,000 GTD Six-Max for $6,056 and then place third in events on partypokerNJ and PokerStarsNJ. Gagliano's summer in Las Vegas featured six cashes with the best result coming in the $5,000 NLH Big Blind Ante event where he took 10th place for $27,208. Jason 'JLaw' Lawhun and Yong 'ykwon17' Kwon traded spots on the leaderboard at the fourth and fifth positions. Lawhun jumped a spot thanks in part to a full month of volume which equaled 37 cashes. Two of those scores were wins including a July-ending triumph in the $7,500 GTD KO on WSOP.com. The win came with $3,225 to put Lawhun within $80,000 of cracking the $1 million mark in career online earnings. Kwon didn't jump online until the second to last weekend in July. In that span, he gained a single win on partypokerNJ. Overall, his career earnings are up $1.6 million effective, leaving him only $70,000 behind Jeremy 'Jermz' Danger for New Jersey's all-time tournament winner. Ryan 'shipthesherb' Hohner held onto sixth place for another month. Hohner cashed a few times upon his return to New Jersey but is awaiting his first major post-WSOP score. While in Las Vegas for the full summer, Hohner cashed in the WSOP Main Event for $33,305 in 413th place to close out his campaign. Seventh place in the NJ rankings belongs to Haberman. Two wins in the $30 $7,000 GTD R&A on WSOP.com for $6,472 total are the primary highlights of Haberman's online month. He also took third in the WSOP.com $100,000 GTD Sunday Special on July 23 for $10,322. On the live side, Haberman also cashed in the Main Event in the same pay slot as Hohner for his 359th place result. Ted 'ol muggins' Ely jumped back into the rankings with his eighth-place standing. Ely's July included 12 podium results and two wins. The best of the bunch was the July 12 PokerStarsNJ $7,000 GTD Nightly where Ely claimed the $2,364 first-place prize. 'Thatgood45' also joined the top-10 after a strong five wins in July. 'senor stinks' completes the top-10 for the second month in a row.
