  1. PokerStars announced the return of its popular World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) this week. The series will run from September 7 to 28 and feature 66 events and $40 million in guaranteed prize money. The $5,200 buy-in Main Event will play out on September 28 and 29 and see players battling for $10 million in guaranteed cash and a $1.5 million first place prize. In a WCOOP first, railbirds will be able to watch the final table action in a delayed, cards-down webcast on PokerStars.tv. EPT regulars like James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton will be on-hand along with other Team PokerStars pros to give a play-by-play commentary. The series offers a huge selection of games including Draw, Stud, and Razz in a number of different formats like Ante Up, Big Antes, Four-Max, and Shootouts. Stars has also brought back its Progressive Super Knockout events, which proved popular after being introduced last year. In the first day alone, players can expect $3 million in guarantees, with $1.5 million offered in a special edition of the Sunday Million. Event buy-ins start at $109, but players have the chance to win entries through online qualifiers for as low as $1 or through FPP satellites. There is plenty of action for high-rollers as well, with four- and five-figure buy-in events being spread throughout the series. A $10,300 NLHE tournament kicks off on September 14 and a $10,300 NLHE High-Roller Heads-Up event is scheduled for September 21. After that, three $2,100 events in NLHE, PLO, and HORSE will be offered followed by a $10,300 Eight-Game tournament and culminating in a $5,200 NLHE Main Event. Apart from the individual events, players will also be fighting for the title of the WCOOP Player of the Series. Any runner who cashes in an event will receive points that go toward their Player of the Series ranking. The first place finisher will walk away with the coveted Champions Trophy, a 2015 PCA and EPT Grand Final package, and a 2015 TCOOP Main Event ticket. Created in 2002, the WCOOP is the longest running online poker championship, giving away over $350 million in total prize money. In the inaugural series, $730,000 was awarded, with 238 players buying into the Main Event to create a $238,000 prize pool. MultiMarineof Sweden took the title of first series champ and went home with $65,450 for the victory. Since then, the tournament series has grown exponentially. Just two years later in 2004, total prize money reached $6 million, with over 10,000 players taking part. In 2007, the total prize pool shot up to $24 million and saw almost 3,000 runners buy into the Main Event. Last year, that number increased again, with $62 million being awarded, and Germany's PlayinWasted taking down the Main Event for nearly $1.5 million. According to a press release, PokerStars has dealt over 115 billion hands and boasts over 65 million members. The online poker behemoth was recently acquired by the Canadian gambling supplier Amaya Gaming, which shelled out $4.9 billion to complete the surprising purchase. 2. In Las Vegas, the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event will guarantee $10 million to its winner. Online, we're seeing another $10 million guarantee. This time, the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker Main Eventwill have a $10 million guaranteed prize pool, officials for the site announced on Wednesday. Satellites are up and running for the WCOOP Main Event already and, according to a PokerStars press release, "The $10 million guaranteed prize pool will ensure that the World Championship of Online Poker Main Event is the biggest online poker tournament of the year and will continue to build on its reputation as one of the most sought-after titles in the poker world." Last year's WCOOP Main Event had a $10.6 million purse. The WCOOP Main Event will carry a $5,200 buy-in and start on September 28. The rest of the 2014 WCOOP schedule is still up in the air, but players can qualify for the Main Event through the popular Mega-Path option for as little as one FPP. Additionally, there are $215 satellites that take place on Saturdays at 11:30 ET and on Sundays at 12:30 ET, with Round 1 satellites starting as low as $1.65. Last year's WCOOP Main Event saw Germany's PlayinWasted come away with the win following a three-way deal. His reward was a blistering $1.4 million and, crazily enough, the top three finishers in the 2,133-man field were all from Germany. The winner, a 22-year-old student, told PokerStars at the time, "I am definitely a recreational player. Earlier in my 'career' when grinding to get a bankroll to work with, I played a lot more, but recently, especially while finishing my bachelor, I have not played all that much." 4. [caption width="640"] Dejan ‘Dejanaceking’ Divkovic won a WCOOP title on Friday to go with the SCOOP title he won earlier this year[/caption] The three World Championship of Online Poker finishing on Frirday all easily surpassed their guarantees, and in one case skyrocketed to create a nearly $2 million prize pool. In the second and final day of play in Event #40, a $320 No Limit Hold’em Eight-Max tournament, only 107 players remained of the initial 1,730 entrants. Team PokerStars Pros Jason Mercier and Kevin ‘KevinM987’ Martin made the cut, but would end up finishing in 12th and 82nd respectively. In the end, ‘Kozir’ of Belarus made a surprise comeback with a short stack to defeat Dutchman ‘Ifold2ndnuts’ and Brazil’s Pablo ‘pabritz’ Brito Silva to win the title. Due to a deal worked out when Kozir looked like a long shot, Silva took home $62,000, the lion share of the prize pool, with the Belarusian banking $61,380 With bounties included, Event #41, a $1,575 No Limit Hold’em Progressive Knockout tournament boasted a hefty $1,890,000 prize pool. A total of 1,260 entrants bought-in to the event, which also doubled as the Thursday Thrill Special Edition. The second day of play began with 122 players and included Twitch streamers and PokerStars pros Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier and Randy 'nanonoko' Lew. With the end of the tournament in site, the action came in fits and spurts, with two players busting out on the very first hand of the final table. When only three players remained, the action slowed to a crawl, however, with Denmark’s ‘jonaj10’, the Dominican Republic’s Francis ‘NoHayMiedo’ Cruz and Germany’s ‘bossamtisch’ duking it out over 2.5 hours for the top spot. Once 'NoHayMiedo' was eliminated, the final two cut a deal to chop up the prize money, which saw them play for the bounties, 2% of the prize pool and the title. Just 13 hands later, 'jonaj10' emerged victorious, taking home $140,071 for his finish along with $52,286 in bounties. Event #42 was a $320 buy-in Eight-Game tournament which drew 476 entrants who made 272 reentries. The result was a $224,400 prize pool which paid out 95 places and absolutely smashed its $75,000 guarantee. In heads-up play, 2016 SCOOP champion Dejan ‘dejanaceking’ Divkovic of Bosnia and Herzegovina faced off with Austria’s ‘kuhns89’ for a chance at securing his second COOP title of the year. With both nearly even in chips, the pair decided on a deal which would leave $4,500 on the table for the winner. A short time later, Divkovic would take out his opponent in the Razz round to secure the victory and the $34,439 first-place prize. 6. Players from Germany and Argentina reigned supreme in Friday's PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker events, with each country taking home multiple first and second place prizes, with players from both countries doing their best to fill up the day’s final tables. After a two-day grind in Event #15, a $215 Pot Limit Omaha tournament with the option to rebuy and add-on once, ‘Tgonz’ of the Philippines brought home the win, giving his home country its first WCOOP title this year. At the final table, Tgonz battled with the likes of Canada’s Zack ‘Zackattak13’ Korik, who took eighth, and Russia’s Andrey ‘ThePateychuk’ Pateychuk, whom Tgonz bested heads-up to take home the $43,861 top prize. Over $1.6 million was on the line in Event #16, a $1,050 NL Hold‘em Progressive KO tournament that smashed its $1 million guarantee. While 2016 Poker Hall of Fame nominee Chris Moneymaker made a respectable run in the event, taking 48th place and $3,158 in total prizes, it was the South Americans who dominated. Argentina’s ‘88maca88’ dispatched his countryman, ‘delfina_47’, heads-up to lock up the $121,841 first-place prize, along with $41,871 in bounties. ‘kurtWSOP’ of Brazil banked over $80,000 for his third-place finish, while yet another Argentinian grinder, Cristian ‘rogre69’ Sampaoli, took eighth. A four-way deal was struck at the final table of Event #17, the $320 Stud Hi-Lo contest, leaving third-place finisher, EPT champion Sebastian ‘Pauli elTopo’ Pauli with $12,584, the lion share of the $89,100 prize pool. In the end, Germany’s ‘Dosenpfand’ outlasted the small 297-player field and took down Russian Spring Championship of Online Poker champion, ‘DTFobos’, to win the title and a $12,494 prize. In Event #20, a $320 NLHE, Three-Max, Turbo, Progressive KO, Zoom tournament, players buckled in for a wild ride of lightspeed poker. As the 1,594 player field was whittled down and the non-Zoom portion of the tournament began, several tough players remained. Recent Sunday Million and Sunday Warm-Up winner ‘Needdollarz’ was on hand looking to book another win, as was two-time Turbo Championship of Online Poker winner ‘AlexKP’. Another Sunday Million champ, ‘Doulas12’, was also in the running, dreaming about a possible PokerStars Grand Slam. When all was said and done, Germany’s ‘venced0r’ took home the title and over $50,000 in prizes, giving his country its second win of the day. 7. [caption width="641"] Christian ‘CMoosepower’ Elgstrøm won his third COOP title on Saturday[/caption] The second weekend of the World Championship of Online Poker included two No Limit Hold‘em tournaments, the Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Championship and a Five-Card Omaha Hi-Lo event. In two of those tournaments, players received some extra value for their money when the events failed to hit their guarantees. Event #18, $320 No Limit Hold’em Heads-Up tournament, was a grueling two-day affair that drew 624 entrants and resulted in a small overlay to its $200,000 guarantee. Slovakia’s ‘prosvk’ battled his way through nine heads-up matches, ultimately besting his final opponent, Arturs ‘IKSecret’ Kurnajevs, to secure his first WCOOP title and a $31,670 payday. The journey wasn’t easy for Prosvk, who at one point lost a big pot when his set of kings fell to fourth-place finisher ‘CHD17’s’ rivered quads. Prosvk was able to keep his cool, however, and locked up the win after turning a pair of aces against his final opponent’s pair of kings. In Event #19, some of the world’s best poker players clashed to claim the title of WCOOP Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo champion. The $1,050 buy-in tournament garnered 168 entries, which included two-time Spring Championship of Online Poker champion Christian ‘CMoosepower’ Elgstrøm of Denmark, Canadian poker pro Mike ‘goleafsgoeh’ Leah and Twitch sensation Jason Somerville. After four and half hours of play on Day 2 of the event, the title came down to a match between Elgstrøm and Leah. For nearly an hour, the Danish grinder applied relentless pressure to his opponent until finally emerging victorious with a full house against Leah’s busted low hand. Elgstrøm celebrated his third COOP title and banked $34,028, while Lee took $26,371 and Sommerville made do with $5,714 for his eighth place finish. Event #21 was a $215 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament which garnered 1,713 entrants, but failed to meet its $400,000 guarantee. After taking home his first SCOOP title all the way back in 2009, Hungary’s ‘tomacampi’ was back, navigating a final table that included decorated pro ‘eisenhower1’ and Sunday Bigger champ Bradley ‘BaZa88’ Bower. In heads-up play, ‘tomacampi’ would need only 10 minutes to defeat Germany’s ‘Dakain’, and take home his second COOP title – seven years apart – and a $51,855 prize. WCOOP players got a chance to stray from the norm a bit in Event #22, a $215 Pot Limit Five-Card Omaha Hi-Lo tournament. The event attracted 377 entrants, 257 of which would reenter to generate a $126,800 prize pool, exceeding the $100,000 guarantee. ‘Onmybicycle’ of the Netherlands played exceptionally well on Day 2 of the tournament, moving up from nearly last-place in chips to win the title after defeating Bulgaria’s ‘KRASIVIQ’. The tournament gave the Dutch grinder his first COOP win and a $21,808 first-place prize. 8. Twelve more World Championship of Online Poker events came to their conclusion on Monday topped with the crowning of a new Sunday Million champion. Lithuania's 'euras79' achieved every poker player's dream after he turned $109 into $186,467 in Event #31 Medium ($109 NLHE [Half Price Sunday Million]} after battling through the large 16,950 player field. 'euras79' previous best cash was for $13,114 after a second-place finish in the PokerStars Big $55 last year which makes his title run even more spectacular. 'ccccpusa' took the bronze medal for $94,744, before the $50,000 heads-up battle got underway. No deal was agreed to so the two players had a lot at stake, and it was 'MrMo19' who ultimately exited in second place for a $132,912 before 'euras79' claimed their biggest career title to date. 'OMGitshunt' won over $121,000 after they came through a 778 player field in Event #29 (High): $1,050 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO]. The final three consisted of two U.K. based players, but neither of them was able to go the distance. 'Malaka$tyle' took third place for a total score worth over $55,000 before Jonathan 'Gil3000' Gill fell at the final hurdle but still banked over $57,000 for his silver medal. Former PocketFives.com #1-ranked Chris 'ImDaNuts' Oliver took down Event #30 (High): $5,200 NLHE [High Roller] for a huge $250,934 score after a heads-up battle with 'bencb789'. The final table included PokerStars TeamPro Liv Boeree as well as current PocketFives.com world ranked no.#1 'Lena900,' but they fell in 7th and 6th place respectively. 'RommyTheCute' took away $144,315 in third place before the final battle got underway. There was $60,000 at stake, and it was Oliver who got the better of well-known online grinder 'Bencb789' who added $190,299 to his bankroll in second-place. Former PokerStars Sunday Million champion João 'XxJoaoFeraxX' Otávio struck a heads-up deal with Yoshiaki 'Play4livin' Paco before going on to claim the Event #30 (Medium): $530 NLHE [Sunday Warm-Up SE] title. Paco secured by far his biggest online score to date after he agreed to take $112,593 for his share of the deal after Mark 'Willy3009' Wilson had departed in third place for $70,885. Brazil's Octavio then claimed victory in the final battle and banked $126,350 as well as their first WCOOP title. The biggest winner of the day was Brazil's Fabiano 'kovalski1' Kovalski after he banked a massive $282,545 after a heads-up deal with his compatriot Eder Campana in Event #31 (High): $1,050 NLHE. The 2,077 entrant field created a $2,077,000 prize pool with over $530,000 up for grabs in the top two spots. The U.K.'s Jamie 'Ship It 2010' O'Connor secured his best online score worth $109,862 in fourth place before 'messigoat10' secured $155,368 and the bronze medal. This left the two Brazilians to arrange a money deal. Kovalski then went on to secure his second WCOOP title, eight years after his first, as he sent Campana to the rail in second place for $247,918. 9. While Sunday was the start of the 2018 World Championship of Online Poker, Monday was the first day with multiple titles awarded and millions of dollars in prize pools being awarded. The biggest winner from the 15 events that played to a winner was Romania's 'jah1923' who scored an outright win in Event #4 Medium ($215 No Limit Hold'em Sunday Million Special Edition) for $193,055.14. That event drew 6,794 runners to push the total prize pool to $1,358,800. 'jah1923' wasn't the only player to take home a six-figure score. Runner-up 'Lapideum' wound up winning $132,753.26 for outlasting all but one player. 'BrightStripe' took home the winner's share of $76,314.44 after chopping Event #2 High ($1,050 No Limit Hold'em) with 'ale6ka' and 'Machiavelli3'. The final table also included Arseniy 'josef_shvejk' Karmatskiy and Alex 'lynskey99' Lynskey. Julian 'nailuj90' Stuer picked up the win in Event #3 High ($2,100 Eight Max No Limit Hold'em PKO) for $96,971.08. Stuer also earned $87,312.49 in bounties. His final bounty came from runner-up 'Armani1974'. The German pro had to settle for $72,075.64 from the prize pool and an additional $32,812.51 in bounties. The most high-profile heads-up battle of the day came between Germany's 'nilsef' and former #1-ranked Chris 'Big Huni' Hunichen. The two managed to outlast the 197 other players in Event #10 High ($2,100 Eight Max No Limit Hold'em Win the Button) before agreeing to a chop. 11. Nine more World Championship of Online Poker events came on their conclusion on Wednesday, September 12 as PocketFives #2-ranked 'C.Darwin2' just missed out on his first title of the series. In Event #38 (High): $1,050 NLHE [6-Max, Progressive KO], it was Slovakia's 'adkaf' who took the spoils and a first WCOOP title after a heads-up battle with 'C.Darwin2'. Ireland's 'wesko78' departed in third place for $33,912 + $13,398 (in bounties) before heads-up got underway. 'C.Darwin2' was looking to wrap up a first title of the 2018 series after previously making three final table appearances without a victory. But former Sunday Million winner 'adkaf' was the player to prevail and eliminated 'C.Darwin2' in second place for $48,164 + $8,429. 'adkaf' walked away with the gold medal and a score worth over $155,000. 'WhaTisL0v3' was the biggest winner on Wednesday after defeating Andriy 'Andre_Hansen' Lyubovetskiy heads-up to win Event #40 (High): $530 NLHE [Half Price Super Tuesday] for an eye-watering $185,562. Their exit made way for the final two players to fight it out for an extra $55,000, and it was to be Lyubovetskiy, who won SCOOP Event #31-High ($530 No Limit Hold’em Sunday Million Special Edition) for $229,784 back in May of this year, who fell at the final hurdle but marked a stellar performance with a $131,211 sore, with 'WhaTisL0v3' taking the overall glory. Brazil's 'KKremate' won Event #38 (Medium): $109 NLHE [6-Max, Progressive KO] for $29,059 + $17,915 (in bounties) after a heads-up deal 'michalbubble'. A massive 4,775 entrants field created a $238,750 prize pool and when the final table of six was set it featured Norway's 'Skrotnes,' as well as 'Graftekkel' and Jason 'jdtjpoker' Wheeler. Once they departed before the podium places, Russia's 'LeBroHbKA' took the bronze medal for $16,500 + $4,234 (in bounties), and the final two agreed to a money deal. There was still a sizeable amount of money to play for in the form of the bounties, and it was 'KKremate' that secured the extra bankroll boosting dollars after 'michalbubble' fell in second place for $28,609 + $3,725 (in bounties). 'Mordnilap' won $53,055 for taking the title in Event #39 (High): $2,100 FLHE. Oliver 'sk2ll_m0dR' Weis finished in third place for $31,207 and just missed on a place in the final battle. 'hiran bass' added a WCOOP title to go alongside the SCOOP title he won last year after taking down Event #40 (Medium): $55 NLHE for $65,360. The Brazilian came through a 9,575 player field and the final showdown with 'holves,' who banked $45,536 in second place, to claim victory.
