The Carolina Panthers helped ‘birdsin14’ win the FanDuel Sunday Million

The daily fantasy sports site FanDuelheld a special Sunday Million for the NFL Conference Championships on Sunday. With just two games on the slate, it took a considerable amount of differentiation in order to claim the top spot on the leaderboard and the $100,000 first place prize.

birdsin14‘ did just that, though, taking the Sunday Million down with 168.30 points, three more than the next closest player. If you watched the NFC and AFC Championships, then you pretty much know which players you needed to win, but the composition of his lineup might surprise you.

At quarterback, ‘birdsin14’ had Cam Newton, who was 29% owned, but put up a monster line in Carolina’s beat-down of Arizona. Newton had four total touchdowns, 335 yards passing, and 47 yards rushing for 39.1 points.

‘birdsin14’ paired Newton with receivers Corey “Philly” Brown and Ted Ginn. The former was the true differentiation point for his lineup, as Brown was just 7% owned, but posted a 4-113-1 line for 19 points. Ginn was 28% owned, but caught two passes for 55 yards and added a 22-yard rush TD. ‘birdsin14’s’ lineup was likely one of only a few with both Brown and Ginn paired with Newton, which was enough to separate him from the pack.

He also had Arizona’s John Brown at receiver, who turned in a dud with three points, but ‘birdsin14’ had plenty of other players who excelled.

At running back, ‘birdsin14’ had two chalk plays: Arizona’s David Johnson and Denver’s CJ Anderson. Johnson only rushed for 60 yards, but added nine catches out of the backfield for 68 yards total and scored a touchdown, good for 23 points. He was 34% owned and was the most expensive running back play of the slate.

Anderson, one-half of a time share with Ronnie Hillman, had 90 yards from scrimmage and three catches, good for 10 points. Perhaps a little surprisingly, Anderson was 51% owned. That’s about the same percentage snaps he sees in Denver.

At tight end, ‘birdsin14’ had Rob Gronkowski, who went 8-144-1. Gronk and Owen Daniels were the tight end plays of the week. Gronk was 38% owned and lived up to his season-long hype.

‘birdsin14’ went with Denver’s Brandon McManus at kicker. McManus booted two field goals and added two extra points for 10 points total on FanDuel. At defense, ‘birdsin14’ went with Carolina, which was 27% owned and forced seven turnovers, three sacks, and a defensive score. The Panthers’ D earned ‘birdsin14’ 24 points and was the play of the week at the position.
