Kitai was eliminated in sixth place in Event #46 on the 15th hand of final table play. Richard Lyndaker, who would be the bane of several PocketFivers’ existences in this event, called Kitai’s all in with pocket kings. Kitai held pocket tens. The board came A-3-A-2-A, ending Kitai’s pursuit of his second World Series of Poker bracelet. There were three eliminations in the first 28 hands of final table play.
By virtue of winning Event #38, a $2,000 pot limit hold’em event, Kitai gave Belgium its first ever World Series of Poker bracelet. That cash was worth nearly a quarter of a million dollars. He finished 404th in last year’s Main Event for $34,664. In March, he won the $150 buy-in $65,000 Guarantee on Full Tilt Poker for $15K, just a few months following his win in the $530 buy-in High Roller $30K Guaranteed on PartyPoker for nearly $14,000. PocketFivesLive.com Tournament Reporter Jessica Welman describes Kitai’s march through the 2008 WSOP: “Kitai racked up his second final table after winning the $2K Pot Limit Omaha bracelet just a few days ago. He is clearly on a roll in action-heavy tournaments and I wouldn't be surprised if another deep run is in his future.”
Bertrand ElkY Grospellier (pictured at right) finished in 16th place. Lyndaker was also the thorn in Grospellier’s side, calling his all in with pocket aces against Grospellier’s A-J after the river card on a board of J-8-4-7-8. Grospellier’s first cash of the 2008 WSOP was worth $31,781. In April, he cashed for first in an $11 rebuy $55K Guaranteed on PokerStars for $11,693.56. Quibell commented, “Grospellier isn't busy killing monsters in the computer game ‘Starcraft;’ he is striking down opponents at the poker table. He is well-known for being the first person ever to reach the ‘Supernova Elite’ level on PokerStars and his aggressive style has garnered him some big wins in live tournaments as well. He won the EPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2008 for $2 million and hasn't slowed down since.”Chris Cmoney3 Kline finished in 25th for $20,430. He got all in with fellow PocketFiver Gray with pocket eights. Gray held pocket sevens and flopped quads. Kline was sent packing, notching his first WSOP cash of 2008 in the process. Welman talks about Kline’s tournament: “Kline came in as the second shortest stack on Day 2, but he managed to build up enough of a stack to make it to the final five tables of play. His patient play throughout the day made a big difference between squeaking into the money and having a shot at the bracelet.”
Steve CornellFiji Ware, not a PocketFiver, but notable in the online poker world, was sent home in ninth place. Short-stacked, he pushed from the small blind with J-5 offsuit and Joe Commisso, who was in the big blind, called with A-5. An ace-high board left Ware tredding on thin ice and his hand failed to improve. He cashed for $63,941. It was Ware’s second cash of the 2008 WSOP; he also finished 35th in the $1,500 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha with Rebuys tournament for $16,849.
Also cashing in Event #46 were Shannon shannonshorr Shorr (28th for $20,430), Ryan Daut44 Daut (31st for $16,647), Chris cdbr3799 Dombrowski (34th for $16,647), Bryn Kenney (35th for $16,647), Jonathan fatalerror Aguiar (49th for $10,972), Michael Inissint Glasser (66th for $9,080), and Glen Chorny (69th for $8,323). In the two six-handed events held so far, PocketFivers have pocketed a total of $600,000.
