The action on the East Coast kicks off with Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut (pictured) hosting the Summer Showdown from July 31 to August 4. The series offers five events with buy-ins from $250 to $1,100 and a combined $250,000 in guarantees.

Just after that, Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut is hosting a World Series of Poker Circuit stop. In addition to the standard 12 ring events with a $1,675 Main Event, there will be daily and nightly non-ring events.

New York also has a couple of series, starting with Seneca Niagara’s Summer Slam from July 30 to August 4. There will be five events with buy-ins from $125 to $600, so it should be perfect for smaller bankrolls.

Next, Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York is hosting the Empire State Hold’em Championships from August 5 to August 18. The series will have 22 events with buy-ins as low as $115 all the way up to $1,650 for the Main Event. This will be the inaugural event for the new televised show “Poker Night in America” started by Todd Anderson (one of the founders of the Heartland Poker Tour) and featuring Nolan Dalla as its Creative Director.

In Bensalem, Pennsylvania, Parx Casino is hosting another Big Stax series from August 1 to August 19. There will be 11 events with buy-ins ranging from $120 to $1,080. This series is influenced by Parx poker ambassador Matt Glantz and has received very good reviews. In nearby Bethlehem, Sands will run its Deep Stack Extravaganza from August 16 to August 26.

On the eastern side of the Pennsylvania, Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh hosts the Pittsburgh Poker Open from August 8 to August 19. There will be 25 events with buy-ins from $125 to $1,100. There will even be a couple of Pot Limit Omaha events if you want to try something other than Hold’em.

West

Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California (pictured) runs a marathon series – the Legends of Poker – from July 28 to September 4. The $3,700 World Poker Tour televised Main Event starts on August 29, but there are 29 other events available with buy-ins ranging from $70 to $5,000. Almost every format of poker is available on the schedule, including a $1,100 Open Face Chinese Poker tournament. This is a “can’t miss” event for West Coast live tournament grinders.

Near Sacramento, California, Thunder Valley Casino Resort is hosting the Thunder Valley Players Championship from August 1 to August 12. The 11-event series features buy-ins ranging from $100 to $1,100. The Main Event boasts a $250,000 guaranteed prize pool.

In San Jose, Bay 101 hosts the Bay 101 Open from August 12 to August 19, which has seven events with buy-ins from $110 to $1,080. The $110 event is “All-In or Fold,” so it could be a fun change of pace.

In Calgary, Alberta, Deerfoot Inn and Casino is hosting its Summer Super Stack series from August 8 to August 18. The series has eight events with buy-ins from $220 CAD to $1,500 CAD. It should be good weather this time of year in Canada, so there’s not a better time to travel up north.

You can try your hand at the Arizona State Poker Championship at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. This is a single $1,100 event that generally draws huge fields. Last year’s event had 975 entries and a $1,000,000 prize pool. There are three Day 1 flights, but each is capped at 470 players, so don’t procrastinate signing up.

As August closes out, three series kick off in Las Vegas. The Red Rock Ultimate Poker Challenge runs from August 30 to September 8 and is a joint series between the Red Rock Casino and the online poker site Ultimate Poker. This could be the first of many joint ventures between brick-and-mortar casinos and legalized online sites.

The Festa al Lago returns to the Bellagio from August 30 to September 12. The full schedule isn’t available yet, but there are typically several $1,000 to $5,000 events. Caesars offers a low-roller series to start the football season – the Kickoff Poker Classic – from August 30 to September 15. There are 30 events with buy-ins from $130 to $560.

The Card Player Poker Tour at Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma (pictured) continues until August 5. There are still six events remaining, including the $1,620 Main Event, which features a $500,000 guarantee. In Thackerville, Oklahoma, WinStar World Casino hosts the River Poker Series from August 14 to September 1. The series consists of 10 tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $340 to $5,000 and a combined $4 million guaranteed prized pool. This should be enough to draw in lots of players.

Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana is hosting the Hollywood Summer Poker Open from August 1 to August 11. The series has 22 events with buy-ins between $125 and $375. These tournaments should be good for players with smaller bankrolls.

In Columbus, Minnesota, Running Aces Harness Park hosts the Tournament of Champions, a $2,500 event with an Allen Kessler approved structure, 30,000-chip starting stack, and one-hour levels. Re-entry is allowed to the beginning of Day 2.

Just a short drive away, Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota hosts the Twin Cities Poker Open from August 17 to August 25. The $1,100 event has several satellites, two Day 1 flights, and should draw a large field.

The Mid-States Poker Tour has a few stops in August. From August 10 to August 18, Grand Falls Casino Resort near Sioux Falls, South Dakota hosts another $1,100 MSPT event. This stop became an instant favorite among tour regulars with raves about the quality of the casino and poker room.

Then, MSPT returns to FireKeepers Casino in Battle Creek, Michigan from August 17 to August 25. This casino has limited seating, so reserve your spot early. Finally, MSPT returns to the Downstream Casino in Quapaw, Oklahoma for a “Keep It or Cash It” event from August 30 to September 8. Unlike other MSPT events, this one has a whopping eight Day 1 flights and the buy-in is $460. You can play as many flights as you’d like and have the option to combine all of your Day 1 stacks for Day 2 or you may sell them.
