Missouri’s Mike Gorodinsky (pictured) etched his way into poker history on Thursday when after five days of play, he finished on top of the 84-player field to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Poker Player’s Championship for $1,270,086.

The win more than doubled Gorodinsky’s career live earnings to slightly over $2.5 million according to the Hendon Mob, with almost $2.2 million of that total coming from WSOP events.

Gorodinsky now has five WSOP final tables to his name, including two this year. This also represents his second WSOP bracelet after previously winning $216,988 for finishing on top of a $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo event.

As one can imagine in a tournament of this magnitude, the competition was fierce. The final table included Jean-Robert Bellande, David “ODB” Baker, Ben Sulsky, Chris SLOPPYKLOD Klodnicki, and Dan djk123 Kelly(pictured below). Additionally, PocketFivers Jason treysfull21 Mercierand Shawn buck21 Buchanan just missed the official final table, each winning $139,265 for finishing in seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Two-time WSOP champion Dan djk123Kelly (pictured) was the first to hit the showers on the final table while playing Badugi when after two-and-a-half hours of play, his queen-high Badugi was no match for Bellande’s ten-high. The six-time former #1 in the PocketFives Worldwide Rankings collected $184,222 for his efforts.

The only other PocketFiver on the final table, Klodnicki, was the next casualty. Like Kelly, his final hand was against Bellande while playing Badugi. Klodnicki added to his over $5 million in WSOP cashes and over $8 million in overall live tournament cashes after collecting $251,314.

Less than an hour later, Sulsky was eliminated in fourth place by Baker during No Limit Hold’em, collecting $353,928.

Gorodinsky faced a fierce competitor in Bellande(pictured) during a three-and-a-half hour long heads-up battle before winning the top prize and becoming the ninth person to have his name etched on the Chip Reese Trophy. Gorodinsky came into heads-up play with a 7.5 million to 5 million chip advantage and not too long later found himself with a 3:1 lead. Bellande was able to gain momentum to even things up before Gorodinsky won the tournament shortly after midnight.

“I feel amazing,” Gorodinsky told WSOP.com after his victory. “This is literally something that I’ve gone to bed dreaming about and it’s just cool to legitimately realize a dream. So, it’s just an amazing day. An amazing five days.”
