While much of the US is digging out from several feet of snow and treating frostbite from subzero temperatures, it’s above 80 in the Bahamas, the site of the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. It’s no wonder that the annual series’ Main Event, which has a $10,300 buy-in, broke through its $10 million guarantee on Day 1B on Wednesday, when 710 entries were recorded, bringing the total to 1,005.

Players still have until the start of Day 2 on Thursday to buy in, so it’s conceivable that the field could get even larger. As it stands after the two starting days, Shankar ShanksPillai (pictured), who is ranked #133 worldwide on PocketFives, stands atop the field with a stack of 173,900 in chips, about 13,000 more than the second place stack belonging to fellow PocketFiver Dylan Pokerl)evil Hortin.

Getting over 1,000 entries in the PCA Main Event was somewhat of a coup for the tournament’s organizers, PokerStars, who watched as the United States was walloped by one of the fiercest winter storms in recent memory. To that end, David Carrion, PCA and Latin American Director of Live Operations, commented in a press release, “Because of the weather, we were a little bit concerned about the numbers – not so much because of the guarantee, but because we want to give players a fantastic event. So, we are thrilled we have topped 1,000 players and I know there are still players arriving after three days of trying to get here.”

Here are the top 10 chip stacks in the PCA Main Event entering Day 2 on Thursday:

1. Shankar ShanksPillai – 173,900
2. Dylan Pokerl)evil Hortin – 160,500
3. Victor Levy – 150,100
4. Daniel Bavec – 149,900
5. Rens Feenstra – 148,400
6. Adalfer Gamarra – 145,700
7. Jorgen Sandvoll Lindebo – 139,900
8. Leonardo Emperador – 136,100
9. Sam Greenwood – 132,500
10. Antoine Saout – 131,600

It’s a pretty talented top 10. Pillai won his WSOP bracelet in 2007 in a $3,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament for $527,000. He has nearly $2 million in tracked cashes in his PocketFives profile and finished second in the PokerStars Bigger $162 four days ago for $23,000.

Hortin has been a member of PocketFives since 2008 and has $2.3 million in tracked scores. He was among the top dogs after Day 1A, posting on Twitter, “Finished Day 1A of PCA as chip leader with 160.5k, pretty awesome to say the least, excited for Day 2 on Thursday!” Saout finished third in the 2009 WSOP Main Event for $3.4 million.
