Steven Gee from Sacramento, California is no stranger to winning big field World Series of Poker events. Back in 2010, Gee won a WSOP bracelet outlasting a field of over 3,000 entrants in a $1,000 No Limit Hold’Em event for $472,479. He has also cashed in three other WSOP events in his lifetime. He enter the 2012 WSOP October Nine in fifth place with a stack of 16.8 million and was the first player to be eliminated.

On Day 6 of the 2012 WSOP Main Event, Gee was involved with a couple of critical hands with fellow American and poker pro Taylor Paur, also known as taypauron PocketFives. Paur was a previously #1 in the PocketFives Online Poker Rankings and has been in first place several times throughout the WSOP Main Event.

Paur opened from under the gun to 100,000 chips. Gee 3bet Paur to 260,000 from middle position. The blinds folded and Paur called to see a flop. Paur checked on the flop of 3d-Qc-Kc, which lead Gee to continuation bet to 160,000, which Paur called. After the turn came the 5c, Paur lead out for 480,000 representing the flush draw, which Gee called.

The 2d seemed harmless on the river and Paur took a few minutes considering his options before betting out 1,200,000 in chips, which would have crippled Gee if he called and lost. After tanking for some time, Gee unhappily folded his hand and was down to 1,380,000.

Later on in the day, Gee got the best of Paur. Paur opened up from middle position and from the button Gee 3bet to 300,000. Paur then 4bet to 630,000 and Gee called. Paur led for 630,000 on the flop of 10-10-9, which Gee called. With the pot already huge, Paur announced he was all-in when the turn came another nine. Gee called, which made Paur nervous and he asked Gee if he had kings.

After a harmless seven on the river, Gee won a huge pot when he showed A-A to beat Paur’s Q-Q, which skyrocketed Gee’s stack to 5,350,000 and brought Paur down to 10.5 big blinds with 1,260,000 chips.

Going into Day 7 of the 2012 Main Event, Gee had 4,830,000 in chips and found himself in 22nd place with 27 people remaining, but managed to hold on for a November Nine birth.
