Some encouraging news coming from the regulated online poker market in the United States, as the Caesars-backed WSOP.comin Nevada is now accepting PayPal for player deposits.

According to iGaming Business, “The group launched the payment method in the state of Nevada this week and expects to roll out a full launch in New Jersey next week. PayPal will be available to its New Jersey customers through its licensed CaesarsCasino.com, HarrahsCasino.com, and WSOP.com websites.”

Online Poker Reportadded that the new payment option, at least for the meantime, is restricted to WSOP.com and will not appear on 888 Poker, which also exists in New Jersey and runs on the same network as WSOP. 888 does not yet have a brand in Nevada.

Online Poker Report classified the move as a “huge policy shift,” explaining, “PayPal has prohibited US online gambling transactions to the point that any mention of gambling (even arbitrary comments in the comments section) could lead to your PayPal account being flagged and blocked.” Whether PayPal will continue to ease its stance going forward remains to be seen.

Feedback in a thread in our New Jersey poker community about PayPal coming to WSOP.com was largely positive. One user posted, “Pretty huge. Makes transfers possible.” Another New Jersey poker player called the move “pretty sick.”

Legitimizing the regulated online gambling industry in the US is one reason that PayPal being accepted is important, according to OPR: “Now accepting PayPal is along the lines of a stamp of approval; a verification that an online website can be trusted.”

Additionally, circumventing the use of credit cards, which despite new codes have been problematic for some players, will likely improve the success rate of deposits.

A screen shot on iGaming Business’ website showed the WSOP.com home page with a big blue graphic that read, “Now accepting PayPal.”

Non-US sites like 888 Poker already accept PayPal as a payment method. If anyone reading this article lives in Nevada or New Jersey and wants to try out WSOP.com, you can do so by clicking here and supporting PocketFives.
